hey everyone i am new to wheel horse tractors. i recently bought a c-100 and i love it but it could use some more power for what i would like to use it for. with that being said i found a 14hp engine near me for a good price and im wondering if i can take the 8hp out and put the 14hp in. wondering more so if it can be done relatively easy without all kinds of crazy modifications.

Welcome to RedSquare, depending on what the replacement engine is, for example is it a Kohler off of a Wheel Horse, if so the swap should be basically bolt on.  If not, you may need to fab a little but Wheel Horses are generally pretty easy to replace the engines on.

You state above your tractor has an 8 HP.

Your C100 should have a 10 HP.

Any pics of the existing engine?

What specifically is the task you're doing that needs more HP?

This engine is missing the top cover sheet metal. That's pretty Important...

Your are right sorry I was looking at getting another wheel horse before posting this and got it confused. But yes my C100 is a 10 hp. I would love to get a snowblower and a blade for it but I was told the single stage blowers aren't that great so I would love to put a 2 stage on it then I came across that 14hp engine and figured more power would be more better haha... realistically I know some stuff I'd like to use it for like pulling my homemade box blade is a bit much for it but I can't afford a "full size" tractor so I have to work with what I have

Was made for Toro but that 14 hp has a very short crankshaft on the PTO end  I do not think it would work with a WH PTO

For a plow you'd be fine with 10 HP. Some use as little as 6.

For a snowblower.... the single stage has its uses but overall the dual or two stage is preferred.

The two stage was introduced by Wheelhorse when the 14 and 16 HP single cylinder Kohler were being phased out.

Even a 14 would be marginal for a big snow with a two stage. Going slow would help.

For a snow (front) or grader (middle) or box (rear) blade you'd be very interested in proper WEIGHT. Horsepower is obviously a concern but maybe not as much as you'd expect.

Exactly. Fluid filled tires (with tubes), additional weight in / on the wheels, proper tires and chains are needed for winter use when plowing, in order to provide proper traction...

Additional rear weight hung off the tractor helps, but the additional weight in / on the tires is my preference, so as not to overload the axle bearings.

Agreed.

@chrisg802

I can share some YouTube videos from the past several years of both me and my Other Half moving snow on various tractors.

This rig:

Has 255 lbs of fluid ALONE plus the steel weights.

I mainly just want to run a snowblower i have a plow truck but a snowblower would be perfect for the beginning of my driveway as its tight and theres not alot of room for snow does anyone know if the c100 could have the mid mount blade on it?

As others have said the 10HP will be fine for pushing snow with a blade and lots of people use a 10 HP for a blower too. You may need to use low range for a big heavy snowbank but it will get it done.

The mid mount grader blade will work ell on a C-100 too.

in the 70's when the 'C' series were made if you wanted a 2 stage blower for your wh the dealer would sell you a canadian made bervac blower.  bervac is now bercomac and still made in canada.  there was a rear counter weight kit for the bervacs too.    when toro took wh over in 1986-ish they developed their own 2 stager by making one of their walk behinds wider.

As stated above it'll work fine. Finding one could be the challenge.

The Mid Mount Grader Blade was not common.

@squonk or @Handy Don could tell you how to modify a different brand blade for Wheelhorse usage.

I saw a nice clean mid-mount at the Portland Antique Engine show yesterday. The guy was asking $360 for it.

We didn't bother trying to find is bottom price, as we weren't really in the market for one.

A good clean one will easily see $450

clueless

10hp vs 14hp not that big of a difference in power for what you want to do, keep the 10:handgestures-thumbupright:
