Dan 312-8 147 #5 Posted July 28 @c-series don very cool! Thank you for posting. You know you are getting older when three aircraft you have worked on are now represented in a museum... F-14 Tomcat (Anytime Baby!), AH-1 Cobra, and UH-1 Huey. The F-14 from VF-143, squadron name, "The Puking Dogs" Dan 6
Treepep 697 #6 Posted July 28 Very cool. Many thanks! Dad and granddad were Air force. Grampa was a pilot, Dad was a Mechanic. Growing up in the Midwest we would go to S.A.C museum and airshows. Folks would gather around to listen to them thinking they worked there being so knowledgeable. As a kid it made little sense. Just proud and could not comprehend how they gathered so much information about aircraft. Thanks, Great memories! 3

Beap52 1,479 #9 Posted July 28 Yesterday I was setting in the shop sipping tea with a neighbor when I heard a twin engine airplane flying over. Those old twin engine prop planes make a unique sound as they lumber along. I don't know what kind it was but the bright polished aluminum shown brightly. By the time I found my binoculars, it was too far gone. We wondered if it was heading southwest from the Oshkosh fly in. I'm glad there are folks out there that have the resources to preserve these flying machines and still use them. 1

Bunches of them will be in Maine this coming weekend.
Kennedy 138 #11 Posted July 30 If you find yourself near Dayton, Ohio, definitely check out the National Museum of the US Air Force. Wear comfortable walking shoes because you will spend all day there.

C-85 769 #13 Posted July 31 I'm glad to see this, that museum seems like a hidden secret! We went there about 15 years ago and I was very impressed! Back then they had a A10 out back and from these pictures it looks like it's being displayed inside now, so that's good to see. During my time in Desert Storm in 1990/1991 I feel that the Apache helicopters and the A10s probably helped save our lives! I've read how the Air Force is trying to decommission the A10s due the the new F35s and I don't know if that's a good thing or not. C-85

Warthogs fly over my house regularly for training. I hate to think that such a proven plane would be history. The F35 is a whole different plane and I think there is a place for both, but spending money seems to be the priority.

CCW 1,379 #17 Posted August 1 CT Air Guard used to fly A-10s out of their base next to Bradley Airport. They were moved years ago and I still miss seeing them fly over. There was always a trio that did a fly by of the Memorial Day parade here in town. Now a single giant cargo plane does it and just not the same.
adsm08 3,338 #18 Posted August 1 We get A10s and choppers from The Gap, and C130s out of New Cumblerland, and sometimes you see jets at HIA.
