My WH made me money!

My brother owns a Plumbing and Handyman company and has a customer with a 1/4 mile driveway full of potholes that needed filling. I’ve been working with him two or three days a week since I retired back in April. He’s on vacation and asked me if I wanted to do it and of course I said sure. I brought my 314 H and my small dump trailer. My trailer was comfortable with 35 shovel fulls per load, and I did 40 loads. It took me five hours in the miserable heat. The 314, like always, worked like a beast. So now I have a few dollars of funny money  I’m curious if any of you have used your tractors to make a few extra bucks?

My neighbors would occasionally give me a case of beer to plow there driveway in the winter I consider that making money  💰 🤑

I've cleared snow for some home made pies or cookies.

I regularly mow the lot next door that belongs to the lady across the street.  She will stop by a time or two a year and drop off a thank you card with $50 or $100 in it.

 

I've given up telling her that it isn't necessary.

A few years ago Trina and I along with some other neighbors helped out a widowed friend. At one point we brought over the Cinnamon Horse C160-8 and Mackissic chipper shredder to dispose of branches.  

The widow gave us some tools and greatly reduced prices on others.  

 

Not a direct payment but certainly part of the show of appreciation.

I clear the snow from 4 neighbors driveways.   I have received gas and restaurant gift cards,  books, maple syrup, and thank you cards.

  At least he had a dump trailer.  Saved him another 1400 scoops to unload the trailer.

He has one.....

 

We several shovels and an FEL. 

We almost always use the shovels.

It wasn’t extra money, but it was money I made to pay for my tractor. In 1984 I bought my Work Horse GT-1800 brand new to mow commercially. I paid it off in less than two years and even saved up a little bit for a small down payment on my first truck! I mowed commercially with it for 8 years before giving up the mowing business. I wish I had an hour meter on that tractor, as I not only mowed with it but also tilled many gardens and plowed many driveways. Now after restoration it’s in retirement, and still in my possession 41 years later!

@c-series don Very cool Don! Bought my first WH new in 1989. It makes me wonder, who on this forum has owned their WH from new the longest? Maybe an interesting new post.

Like @ebinmaine said, I have one   Just haven’t had it out since last year. I’m fortunate that at my age, almost 67, I can still do (and enjoy) manual labor. I was a pencil pusher my entire career, and I’ve had a neck and two back surgeries but if I can avoid stepping in a pot hole or missing a landing step (it was always the simplest things that caused my back issues), then I’m ok 😁 Last week I worked with my nephew taking down a large deck that was 10’ off the ground. He cut it up and I humped the wood up the hill to the dumpster. They call me cause I’m cheap labor 🤪

i plowed for two older neighbors for years.  i received gift cards to grocery stores, beer, scratch tickets and a used cadillac!  (2000 STS)

Occasionally I will get a gift card for gas, and an occasional beer in the snowbank. I help out the widow across the street, the retired single lady next to her and my neighbors aside of me with snow removal. I have been accused of enjoying doing it and pled guilty to the charges.

Never cash, but my chipper/shredder on the front of my 314-8 has earned me plenty of free beers and a lot of good will
