Sources for 520Lxi parts?

Recommended Posts

DeltaNu1142

It's looking a lot like I'll be picking up a 520Lxi this morning. It's coming to me with what sounds like a charging issue, and so I've been pre-emptively looking for a stator and regulator. I can see a few aftermarket options for the Kohler engines, but I'm coming up empty for the Kawasaki.

Where should I be looking for parts for this model? I'll post more info when I have it.

My first recommendation is to check with our own vendors.

@76c12091520h Brian Badman.

Also CALL Lincoln at A to Z Tractor in PA.

@Pullstart or @stevebo ? Any thoughts?

Before you go parts shopping you should have the tractor in your possession and do some basic trouble shooting. Frequently charging problems are a matter of a bad fuse holder or other electrical connection rather than a parts failure. We can help you trouble shoot the problem once you have it home.

Here is a listing of links to service manuals and associated information that will be helpful;   https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/search/?&q=520Lxi&type=downloads_file&page=2&search_and_or=or&sortby=relevancy

I'm not sure were you have done your searching but these engines were used by numerous equipment manufacturers besides TORO.

This manual may give you more information that will allow you to narrow your search.

There's a good thread here for overall checking and maintenance:

If I haven’t yet, :text-welcomeconfetti:

The Xi series is a beast, but I have never seen a Kawasaki one yet.  I’m no help :lol:

These Xi frames are incredibly strong, and completely different than traditional Wheel Horse frames.  Please inspect your front axle pivot.  They wear badly and the weight of the machine makes it so you can barely notice.  If you jack up the frame and let the axle droop it will show the wear.

The XI machines are heavy and beast like everyone has already stated.  They are very capable machines and you will enjoy.  Parts are available through many sources, however I agree with the others and believe on waiting until it's in your possession.

I have a LXI parts tractor that still runs. I might be able to help in a pinch. Just send a PM.

My actual first thought when you mentioned this site has vendors:

ed907c87-9c0e-404d-bc4b-864b9dd01b29_tex

The tractor I picked up is model # 73545, serial # 890xxxx... so it likely has the plastic gear parts. But I went ahead and got it, loaded it in the trailer and brought it home. I was able to get about 3/4 of my lawn cut before the PTO engagement stopped responding consistently... a clear sign of low volts (from what I can tell). I pulled the tractor into the shed and put it on a charger.

The seller said he replaced the voltage regulator, but nothing changed. In fact, he had the old regulator as well as a new one in a box. I'll read voltages on the input & output to see what I can find out. My suspicion is that the stator output is bad / low.

The tractor came with a deck, blower, and bagger, as well as a plow and wheel weights. I already had a 48" deck and will be looking to shed some of the parts. I'll post them in the Classifieds when I can get some photos.

Thanks for the help so far!

Quite the package!

On that voltage regulator and for that matter - the whole system  -

Remember these are DC systems.

Direct Current.

No ground equals no direct current.

The B+ terminal needs to have a connection to a 12 volt source to work. Check the 30 amp fuse and fuse holder.

Handy Don

The guys above have you covered. My personal experience with tractor electrics is that component failure isn’t nearly as common as degraded connections and poor grounding. Hence I remind myself to work from likeliest to less likely when troubleshooting.

I have 100 things going on right now. But I'm no stranger to electrical troubleshooting, so as soon as I can get my head above water I'll put a meter on these components and see what's going on. The help you guys have provided is overwhelming, in a great way. Much appreciated.
