Gasaholic 275 #1 Posted Friday at 02:04 PM Being that almost all my engine work on KT series involved Wheel Horse tractors (and not all that many flywheel replacements) I went on ebay and got a replacement flywheel for my 417-8 (KT17-24363) Unfortunately it arrived, and I discovered that the crankshaft hub diameter on that (Came off a John Deere KT17) was rather a bit smaller, so my $100 went down the toilet (Though I suppose I could re-sell the flywheel if I could identify which part number it might translate to). Oddly enough the PDF IPL in the manuals section only goes to spec number 24343 for some reason, so I could not identify for sure what flywheel exactly I needed. Taking a guess at most likely 52-025-25-S I did a quick search , brand new one (new old stock) on ebay listed for $1200+ - whoa! So I rolled the dice again and bought a good used one off a Bolens (Couldn't tell but the hub hole LOOKED like the larger size I needed) so we'll see if that works out (or it's another $80 down the hole) Reason for flywheel: Magnets had come loose on mine and shattered into a dozen pieces (I have a used stator and a new stator if mine turns out to be bad) so I had no charging output. Just a heads up (and a post for posterity) for folks looking to get a replacement flywheel - just because it is for a KT17 or KT19 does not mean it is gonna fit up on your engine. I hadn't realized they'd made them in different sizes like that. Also a heads up that the IPL hosted here doesn't cover all the spec numbers (Still searching for one that covers spec 24363) Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
pfrederi 18,609 #2 Posted Friday at 03:15 PM and Rehlko no longer shows parts details for KT series...However the do show who a spec was built for .. They built Series 2 #24336 for WH and the parts manual here does show that one it uses Variation #50 part # 52 025 20 That # was also used on some Series 1 WH KTs 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

They don't come loose easily when they are properly bonded and not worth the time and trouble to try and "cook" the flywheel to break the bond (Which itself could mess up the magnets) plus you have to get the magnets in the right positions, the right polarity, etc. - Not worth the trouble to try and no sense destroying a perfectly good flywheel that I could re-sell.
