sqrlgtr 621 #1 Posted June 5 Was hoping someone would have a picture of the correct hydro belt engagement handle for this tractor. Here is a pic of what appears to be a homemade one that's on it now. I was thinking that it was a littlt different than the later models but may be the same. Hoping to find correct one at big show.
ebinmaine 71,758 #2 Posted June 5 Likely something like this...
sqrlgtr 621 #3 Posted June 5 Yes I think that is what they looked like. The only other hydro machine I have is a GT14 and its made a little different, I think.
sqrlgtr 621 #4 Posted June 5 I assume someone cut belt guard trying to figure out how it was supposed to work . Thanks for pic.
squonk 43,298 #5 Posted June 5 I might have one of those levers. I'll have to look 1

Probably too long of a belt that allowed the tensioner pulley to rub the belt guard. 1

sqrlgtr 621 #8 Posted June 5 Might have been what happened. Never would have thought about that. What ever/who ever happened at least they cut it good and square looking. @squonkif you find one bring it along if you don't mind,,,
kpinnc 14,215 #9 Posted June 6 I think the best ones look like this: If you don't like the look, you will love the sound...
sqrlgtr 621 #10 Posted June 6 @kpinnc I dont see one in your pic? I always thought the go go/ back up stick was in a lot better position were that one is instead of between your legs.

Just added a tension spring for the pulley and it's worked great for years. Two different tractors and both work well. Personal opinion here: I've not seen a Sundstrand hydro yet that didn't have a damaged park brake pawl. This introduces metal fragments into the hydro and eventually some of it will pass through the strainer and damage the pump or motor. So I remove the linkages except the arm on the pawl itself. Let gravity pull the arm down and it never contacts the gears again. Then just add a firm spring to maintain tension on the idler pulley. This is the exact same evolution that came between the early and later Eaton systems minus the brake pawl.

When I cold start the K341 for snow plow duty I always let the engine warm before engaging the transmission. All that oil is pretty unwilling to participate for a bit. How do you "put it in park"? My 1978/79 has a brake drum. The '75 however, does not.

No external brake. I probably should've mentioned that. Neither of my release levers actually stopped the belt from turning while cranking.

Yes, I miss that easy start Sundstrand feature on my Eatons.

ineedanother 1,657 #22 Posted June 7 I have a 12 Auto that I moved a k341 and hydro lift onto. It's growing on me. The 10 pinion L/S digs like none of my other tractors but I'm refurbishing an 8 pinion 1140 in case things go boom.

peter lena 9,184 #24 Posted June 7 @sqrlgtr most obvious trouble spot for me , is the tiny bearing in that pulley , known for failure , and poor lubrication, rough . its the COLLECTIVE DRAG on any belt set up , that eats it alive . its not one area , ITS EVERY RELATED AREA , personally like T/S aramid drive belts , have them on my 3 horses , they stand up , with no issues , pete
