D_Mac 9,301 #1 Posted May 20 1990 Artic Cat Jag 440 AFS. It hasn't run in 20 years. Stored in a shed. Appears to be in great shape. No tears in seat, no cracks in cowl or windshield. 3400 miles. Also came with snowmobile trailer. Trailer is in bad shape. Registration for the sled not for the trailer. More to come. 4
953 nut 59,735 #2 Posted May 20 Amazing how something that nice would sit unused for twenty years. 1
D_Mac 9,301 #3 Posted May 20 (edited) So when I got it home I checked for spark at the plug. No spark. Checked all wires for possible mice chewing all looked good. I watched a bunch of videos on YouTube. They say pull the plug where the stator wires come out of the engine and make a little jumper wire to bypass two other wires. If you then get a spark the issues is in the switches on handle bars not electrical on the engine. So I did that and got spark. So now I know problem is in the kill button, key switch. Throttle safety switch, handwarmers. According to the video the machine will run with the jumper but to kill it you have to pull your jumper wire. So the tank was empty, there was oil in the jug. I had already broke the choke cable by accident so the choke is stuck off. I poured some gas in it. Blew into the tank. The fuel filter filled with gas. Gave it like 20 pulls. Got excited when it fired so I set phone down. It's a runner !!! 20 years later. 20250519_191650.mp4 Edited May 20 by D_Mac 4 5

D_Mac 9,301 #6 Posted May 20 (edited) I need to figure out what's opening the circuit. Unfortunately electrical issues are troublesome to me. Guess I need to search YouTube some more. To shut it off I had to pull my jumper wire. Edited May 20 by D_Mac
953 nut 59,735 #7 Posted May 20 Does it have a battery powered ignition with ignition points? I figured they were all magneto type ignitions.
953 nut 59,735 #8 Posted May 20 Was the black wire the one you had to disconnect? If you don't have this service manual it may be helpful. https://vintagesnow.com/Arctic_Cat_files/1987_SM.pdf
D_Mac 9,301 #9 Posted May 20 Thanks Nut. I didn't get any manuals. In your photo above , all the way to the left is where I pulled the connector apart the main harness connector. I put my little jump wire to the brown and the black, leaving the 2 yellow wires unconnected. With the jump wire I get spark. With the 2 yellow wires unconnected the kill switch, the key switch, the lights, hand warmers, and throttle safety switch all don't work 20250520_152103.mp4
