School me on This Speedex?

Pullstart

This has been offered as a trade to a Blazer I have on Marketplace.  Any thoughts on value, attachments, etc?  It would be fun to add to the Pond family, even if it’s on the other side of the family feud:lol:

@953 nut do you have any write ups on this one from last year’s daily tractors?

Model 1630?  1962?  The owner believes this to be true.

I found this picture.  It would look good with a belly mower for the field!

Looks like it's got enough levers and knobs to get you in trouble! :) :auto-ambulance:

I actually think it looks fairly simple to operate!  It would be like a big little brother to the Senior and Lever Steer!  The implement lift looks tough, there’s a shifter and a long parking brake.

Friend of mine has an S 12. He put a tiller engine on it and a giant home made plow. It's his snow mover.

I've looked at them an if i recall correctly the clutch action is done by the engine sliding backwards to slack the belt.

A large clutch spring holds it forwards to operate.

Similar to my 1949 Mayrath having the clutch tilt the engine to slack the belt.

Your getting into the late 70's or early 80's with that one believe it or not. I had an S18 at one time and it was a 1966, it was kind of rare with the original kohler engine. Here is a website that will educate you on speedex: http://speedextractorinformation.org/

Saw some big Speedex garden tractors at the Portland, Indiana Tri-State Engine Swap Meet on Thursday!   Fitting that the Sppedrx and Wheel Horses I had were next to each other.    But Harold and Earl Pond could not have been next to each other.  Their 50 year split with each other is still a mystery to me!   They did make two significant garden tractors!

According to Michael Martino's "Straight From the Horse's Mouth" first edition, Elmer Pond went his own way because he felt that the early Speedex tractors Harold was building were poor quality. It was only a couple years later that Harold sold his business and returned to Galesburg, KS. It may have gone deeper but this would have driven a wedge between the brothers.

My wife’s grandmother and her sister were neighbors for about the same amount of time, 50 years give or take 20.  It’s the same chunk of property they both grew up on, like a family compound.  They had a fight way back in the day and never spoke again. Before her sister passed, we asked her why they don’t talk.  She couldn’t remember.  It’s funny how time heals most wounds, but stubbornness (and pride) still prevails.

Was out at a local show this morning and seen these, we think PS would go for one of these babies!

I was going to ask about them but no one was around.

That is an older version of my 1631.... I believe it's a 1630? Is that a 16HP engine?

I REALLY like my 1631, and it is my absolute FAVORITE for turning dirt. I like how it sits high so you can really dig a deep furrow without high-centering on the edge of the furrow.

Does this one come with any attachments?

No, I don't think so.            :angry-tappingfoot:         That is a crank start,    not a @Pullstart.     :ychain:                                 :text-coolphotos:

@Razorback it does not.  I’d love to see more detail on your plow setup!

The Speedex 1631 has a 3-point/tool bar on the rear. My 1631 came with a turning plow, cultivators, furrowers, and disks. They clamp onto the tool bar.

Well, I now own a Speedex!  He came to check out the Blazer, for a parts project.  It did not pan out, as wood chucks had destroyed the rear harness and it wouldn’t send fuel pressure.  We ended up trading for a clapped out triple axle trailer in the weeds.  I’m glad to clean out unusable stuff, and he was happy for a new trailer after being a tractor owner for just three days

Yay!!!! :woohoo:

Now that you have it.... what does that model sticker near the headlights say?

(Did he allow you to pile any more stuff on that trailer before he hauled it off??  :D)

1630.  I got rid of that ugly seat in favor of a steel one.  I think it looks and feels much better.  It’s doing great today, I skidded some logs and each time I need to start it I have needed no choke and just one pull!

I cut up firewood to get the tops of the tree out of the field.  About 16’ of each trunk was left to skid out of the winter wheat.

The Freightliner Guy

Seems like it’s a pretty decent sized little tractor. How does it compare to maybe the senior? Mainly size and length wise
