8ntruck 7,756 #27 Posted May 29 As I was driving that trailer yesterday, I got to wondering if brackets could be arranged to stow the ramp under the trailer when traveling. I'll have to investigate when I get some time. Currently, the tailgate is held on with pivot pins retained by hair pins. Removal and replacement appears to be fairly easy. The tailgate will not fold forward when the trailer is empty. There is about 10" of ramp at the back of the trailer deck and the latches that hold the gate closed attach to the side rails. Since the side rails are hinged, leaving the tailgate out leaves the rails somewhat unsupported - not good if something is tied off to them. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The weight of the tow vehicle is a big factor too. My old S-10 with a 350 V8 was very capable of pulling a load but it weighed less than the loaded trailer so if the trailer didn't have brakes life could become very interesting when stopping. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
