Hello all putting a tractor together as most of yall know but I ran into a issue I totally forgot the placement of a tractor part and I don’t know were or how to place it I can get a picture of the actual part in the AM but I have a screenshot of the parts manual for now it is circled below

I have a 312-8 the tractor must have been apart before I got it that part was missing. The good thing about it is all the dirt and grass falls out and that stays cleaner.

That is just a shield...to keep dirt and debris from falling into the steering apparatus. It just bolts to the frame.

I have several of those, because I remove them. Good for holding grass clippings, dirt, chipmunk nests, and mice beds. Wonderful place to start rust without you knowing it.

I have voluntarily omitted those before as well.  No harm, no foul.

This is ironic. In the slow progression of the Dino tractor I found that piece on the shelf. I figured it was something in the console area but where? It was still in the 'as removed' condition and one of the rustiest pieces from the machine. Once I found where it goes I debated whether I wanted it on or not. I wasn't sure if I could get it on without some disassembly. Leave it off? Oh, I was tempted for the main reason mentioned. But my tractors never stay outside and I don't let clippings, etc. stay trapped I decided to see if I could get in in the tight space. The shifters and rock shaft arm were the issue. I decided to clean it up, repaint and go only as far as removing the shifter to see if it would go. Any further disassembly wasn't happening. I did get it to go but if it would have been 1/8" bigger it wouldn't have.

I kinda wish I wouldn't have reinstalled it now.

I put mine in multiple places but every time I couldn’t get the 4 bolt holes to line up anywhere and also have the big piece the fender sits on top of be able to have bolts go thru to the frame?

I just left it off... way easier to get to stuff... and as mentioned, it was a rusted piece of junk... although I saved it as is for @Pullstart per our agreement...

I just removed the four rear most bolts on the steering tower and fanagled it in place and reinstalled the bolts. Looking closer at the drawing you posted I think we're dealing with a different location. Mine is on a 78 C-121. :)
