Take the Plunge!

Polar Bear Plunge Day on January 1 is not for the faint of heart or the very timid. Ice swimming is for the bold and daring. Plunging into January’s frigid waters is nothing short of the most insane yet invigorating way to celebrate the first day of every new year. Those courageous – some might say foolish – souls who don swim trunks and bikinis to splash their way into icy cold winter waters claim they are ‘freezin’ for a reason’ — usually to raise money for a good cause. Then again, there are polar-bear swimmers who just like the idea of doing something wild and crazy that doesn’t involve alcohol to kick off the New Year.

I wake up every morning with enough pain in the old bones.  No need to seek additional ways to create discomfort.

@Ed Kennell  can agree , another thing about recovery , is learning from every  action / reaction , my back and forth , with  meds / over to ice instead , has been  more than  equal in movable  movement ease , like the EQUATE

@Ed Kennell   sorry ed about the incomplete  info , but the large EQUATE  GEL  PACK / PAD , held in place to my  computer chair side rail  with a firm foam  backing is terrific  9n a joint area , also like BOAT SEAT FOAM , not to be confused with regular foam , boat seat rating , makes it a life preserver , also very dense / firm in its reaction . proof ? try kneeling in it , amazing  support , a boat repair  / related shop  , might have some  in stock .  wish I had some back in the day , when I was regularly on a steel / cement deck , doing a mechanical  drive failure , change out , 2 artificial knees , going out for a walk , pete

@Ed Kennell   o yeah , totally forgot to add a little jewel  to my  . issues . late last year  had an eye stroke , was not until  I went to a RETNA SPECALIST  that it was defined and treated , that also included  eye ball , injection for issue , the 4 ft screen of the actual working of your eye ball / blood / muscle  flow / function , is incredible , had a  black dot visual on the bottom of my eye that  took hours to go away . on the other hand , I am staying after , what ever  comes my way , that eye groupe , is incredibly  thorough  in their work . just back from a parking lot walk , know my nap , is going to be lights out , ZZZZZZZZ   pete

There is a retired ice breaker in Finland that went on dinner cruises.  It would stop and offer the guests the opportunity to suit up in cold water survival suits and take a dip.  Never got a chance to take one of those trips, but I'd be game to give that a try.

I've done a little bit of scuba diving in the past.  I always thought that an dive under the ice on a frozen lake would have been interesting.  I've aged out on that sort of activity now, so that one fell off of my bucket list.

@8ntruck whats good though is that you realise , that you opportunity on that is gone , maybe something else that interests you , might try , more information about ?  you look at things differently now , have any ice cave walks winter walks in your area ? have family that , had to stop in ICELAND for aircraft issue , have since gone back a number of times , to see the vast  ice related caves , against the black arctic background . pete
