After a series of "delay in game"....

I'm getting back to this soon.

I'm interested to learn how you make out on the shims. That's the one item I don't have - and NOS seem expensive for what they are. I'm contemplating using washers or trimming a small piece off the end of a stainless machine screw.

I'm reasonably sure I won't be needing new shims for my operation because I (should have) a set of the required parts in my own '70 Charger pump or the '78 C141 parts tractor.

This thread is timely...I just moved hydro lift from a spent, abused, '75 c-160 to a '73 Electro 12 with a manual lift but a 10 pinion L/S differential. I moved the K341 too because it was smokeless and I don't really care about the fuel consumption. The point is that the '75 c-160 with the 1140 didn't have any shims. Everything moved right onto the 1136 and is working fine.

It sounds like there's a chance no shims are needed at all - othewise add one at a time. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

Have to get back to my list, and notes.not good with computers, pick and search, pick and search.  Got most of it written down, just have to type it in.

For not being good with computers, you've certainly shown a lot of fortitude to research, document, and collect all of the parts! Mad respect! :royalty-crown:

...and beyond that, what exactly are these rather pricey shims? Neither one of my hydros has them so I've never seen them but images don't show them to be anything that couldn't be duplicated in a shop pretty easily IMO. What says the brain trust who has experience with the "shim set"?

Messing around with the 1978/79 C141 Hydro parts chassis this evening.

Previously I'd removed a few things.

Tonight I got the gas tank out and removed the rear hydro hoses.

Also pulled the valve out with 3 of 4 hoses connected.

1978/79 C141 hydro WITH hydro lift.

This pic is a tad fuzzy but gets the point through.

Per above posts I removed the top two plugs.

Behind each plug is a spring which is pushing in on a cone.

The cones appear identical but I didn't measure them.

The heavier spring came out of the back socket that faces the fuel tank.

No...  and I even waggled a magnet in there so I could extract both cones.

Maybe we can get one of the Admins to change your title to "Magnet Waggler"! :ROTF:

As the recent recipient if the 78 C141 donor,  now I’m trying to put it back together. If the heavier spring is supposed to go in the rear facing the gas tank for a hydraulic lift do they get swapped if there isn’t one or it’s mechanical?

Do you have the manual?

Light spring to rear no spring or valve in the front if yo do not have hydro lift.

@pfrederi No I don’t. Thanks, for the info. I may put a hydraulic lift in it eventually, but I’d like to get it running and moving again first.

@pfrederi , you just settled literally months of fretting over moving hydro from a donor c-160 1140 to a '73 electro 12 with an 1139 that I had already moved the k341 onto. My hydro cylinder ended up being trash so I got one from @WHX?? along with a new set of hoses from Lowell. I got everything moved over this weekend but it wouldn't lift...the difference between a light spring and a heavy spring is kinda like subscribing to this site or not. :wh: Either you fix stuff or you might not. :thanks:
