48” Deck Model Identification? & 106074 vs 110146

Recommended Posts

EasternOT

Hello guys, I recently picked up this 48” deck and need to order some parts including a new drive pulley for one of the outer spindles. I can’t figure out the model number for this deck but I know it’s not a 78360/78361 due to It having the older design of the trailing wheels and how they’re mounted. Does anyone have an idea on the model It could be?

Also I noticed that there seems to be two different part numbers for the outer drive pulleys depending on the year of the 48” deck. One part number is 106074 & the other is 110146. Do these pulleys interchange with each other? The 106074 is twice the price hence why I’m asking.
Thanks!

Just to clarify, if my spindle measures 17mm OD then it’s likely 1985+. Do you know which year they changed from having the rear trailing wheels on the same rod to them having separate brackets for each wheel. Was It when model 78360 started?

I do not know. Would have to compare parts lists which can be done here

https://www.partstree.com/search/?msclkid=e5baf37065dc11af43e5a9808bdc6a14

Often the online 48" parts lists share one with a 42" deck so keep that in mind.

If we have an original parts list they are accurate.

A shared 42-48 parts list likely has different pulleys to get to the required blade tip speed but fails to tell us what uses what.

It took me a while to figure out what you meant by this but I finally understand. In the schematics it shows two different part numbers for the drive pulley since the schematic for the spindle assembly is covering both the 42" & 48" version even though the title only says 42".

The 1977-1984 decks (42" & 48") had different drive pulley part numbers than the 1985+ decks; This correlates to when they switched from the nylon insert locknut to the lock washer & nut design. From what I've gathered by studying the part numbers in the schematics...

- The 1977 - 1984 Decks used drive pulleys 106072 (42") & 106074 (48")

- The 1985+ Decks used drive pulleys 109967 (42") & 110146 (48")

- 1989+ Decks used 2 separate mount brackets for each of the 2 rearward rollers

Therefore 110146 should be the correct part number for my drive pulley as my deck appears to be in the year range of 1985-1988.

Thank you @gwest_ca this was a fun little research project.

Exactly.

An original parts list would have part numbers on the left - part description next and 2 columns on the right - one for 42" decks and the last 48" decks.

An X was placed in the last two columns to identify what deck the part was used on.

Toro never came up with a way to make it work.

Some lists are separated - you will see an item #6 near the top and another item #6 at the bottom along with other duplicated items - top for one deck and bottom for the other using the same item number.

That is at this site
