'71 Bronco 14 Automatic

Has been FAR too kind to me lately. 

 

Here we have a 1971 Bronco. 

Model number  1 0420 6

 

Interesting coincidence... today's date is this tractor's model number!!

 

Needs pretty standard repairs. Clean-up. New cables. Wiring is a shambles. 

Good solid bones overall though. 

And a good bonus,  excellent contender for the old ugly seat contest!!

 

Question now... this has the front attach-o-matic. First year? Or PO installation?

It's the rare "live seat" option.

1969 WHs had the first generation Mule Drive.  They were not around long.  I would imagine by 1971 current version was in use.

I had a 1970 Charger 2 or 3 years ago. That had the old style frame with "horns" off the front holding the hood on.

Is this the style of hood mount you're talking about Eric? This is  off of my 1267 with the modern mule drive adapter

I have a 71 Bronco 14. It’s the last one of my dad’s and will get a full rebuild. One day.

Definitely upgraded to newer tach-a-matic up front and on the belly. 

 

And it even has the electric clutch!

But ya know.... the whole setup is different from the 1970 I had. 

The axle mount and everything would have been changed.  

Maybe this one's been frame swapped??

I'm hoping that works but we have several setups for a manual clutch anyhooo.

I'd had that same thought. One of the reasons I like this rig. 

 

These tires are HUGE in comparison to a 1045 tire though!!

The front wheels have been swapped at some point. They're closer to the width of maybe an 80s 300/400 type. 

 

Probably twice the width of the 60s "Dot" tires.

@pfrederi the simplicity  of basic build strength , on that , only needs the lubrication detailing build , to make it very solid . found that  to be the common fault of original set ups . kept basic idea , definitely  re greased / replaced bearings , spring tension pully arm , green grease , its the COMBINATION OF COLLECTIVE DRAG ,  thats  the typical killer  of attachments. note how mount holes , WALLO OUT ?  thats the  bearing lube failure  , handing it off to the next , MOVEMENT STAGE , MAKE SENSE ?  doing some functional detailing , firming up , sloppy areas / washers /  connective joints , have found , effortless , motion  use . added , angular HEIM  joints to a number of lever /  rod connection points . the movement  ease difference , is  dramatic . they also hide in plane sight . just my take on similar , CHRONIC repairs .  pete

The type EB is talking about you have to saw off to install a late model mule drive;

So does anyone know what year was the first for the Attachomatic?

 

Maybe this '71 frame was cut at the front to retrofit((??))

72 they started the front mule drive but used the side swivel drive also. Might have been a mid year change
