Super lo-tone mufflers?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

My B-80 has a 10HP B&S in it with a 1" exhaust pipe and a standard B&S pancake muffler 392989. It's quite loud, especially if I'm planning to snow blow with it before work. I was wondering if there's a better muffler option for 10HP mufflers? I wasn't able to find a low tone option on the B&S site.

This subject comes up every once in awhile and I like to see if people have found anything new, yet.

It's very important to remember that on an air-cooled engine a lot of the sound actually comes from the engine block itself and is radiated into the airwaves very very well by the cooling fins.

The most quiet, low tone Muffler I've been able to find is one of two. There is a Cub Muffler that can be laid down or stood up as a stack. And a Gravely Muffler that does the same.

My 854 had a round replacement muffler and was loud. Now has a glasspack stack - actually quieter.

My C81 has a Nelson factory muffler - gives a quiet mellow exhaust sound..  Same 8 HP Kohler in both...

Thanks for the suggestions! Looks like Nelson has a good one if I can track down one in stock. Thanks!

Gravely Muffler

That's the one I was trying to find.

I've been liking these because they're compact and work well.

I've done two tractors with them by turning the muffler out and forward.

With correct piping one could also use these as a replacement for the stock underhood mufflers as well.
