C 160 Questions

Hey guys, I know I ask a lot of questions but here’s another tractor I’m looking at, a 70s C 160. I hear they are great tractors, but I was wondering if 200 dollars is good. It runs and drives it just needs new rubber. It has no rust holes to my knowledge.

A C160 that runs and drives is worth twice that... Just in the engine and transmission alone.

Heres the lineage:

 

C160 with the older style angled steering tower was made from 1974 to 1977. 

 

Then on the 1978 and 79 C161 steering tower became more vertical as it stayed for the duration. 

 

For 1980 to 83?? They were Black Hoods. That's a C165. 

 

1984 began the 3,4,500 series. In those the 416 ran for 2 or 3 years with the Kohler single cylinder. 

 

ALL of the above are bull strong excellent workers and highly desirable.

1984 was the last of the Black Hoods.  I have owned my C165 for the last thirty-ish years and wouldn't part with her ever.  Strong workers for sure and probably the most desirable engine combo.

Thanks for that. I wasn't sure of the year cut in there.

I actually wrote 1984 at first and then changed it.

No worries, Eric.  I know Wheel Horse did some interesting/funky changes for some years and can be difficult to trace.  ANY Wheel Horse with a K341/M16 will be an excellent rig.  I wish that the 416H came with the M16.

I know the GT1800. Eaton 1100, Briggs 18. 

518H. Eaton 700, Onan? 18. 

There were 300 hydrostatic too...

I've never seen a 400-series hydro with a Kohler, all I've seen were Onan powered.  There were 314's with the M14 and an Eaton 1100 transmission.  Post-Blackhood, I don't think I've ever seen or heard of a Kohler engine powering a Wheel Horse with an 1100 Eaton outside of the 314H and 5xi series.  I could be wrong, I'd love to see one, I just don't believe it ever was a thing from the factory.

417-A had a KT Kohler, I believe.  What was on the GT1800?

I don't know how I forgot the 417.  There were also a 418 and 420, but quite rare. Duh, what a flub on my part. Perhaps I was thinking in terms of single cylinder Kohlers and the 416.  The GT1800 had a Briggs twin.

@bds1984 Did I just hear someone say something about 418’s and a 420 ? Sorry but my 417 is buried in the shed with the two stage blower on it so it didn’t make the pictures!

Toro master site lists a 312h with the Eaton hydro 1100 in the yr 1990

my grandson has a '80 of the C165-8 - - and i have the 83 and 84 C175h with kohler twin --- hard to find the Kohler singles of a 14 or 16 with a hydro -- the master list shows 14hp singles with hydros in 80-81-82-83-84 but the 16 kohler single with hydro is listed only in 80 and 81 - finding a for sale C165h is like looking for gold bars
