Unusual bit-brace eggbeater drill

Recommended Posts

wh500special

I went to a woodworking show this afternoon and, as you’d expect, there were dealers there selling old tools.  One gentleman had a nice assortment of planes, braces, spokeshaves, clamps, and other things that he’d cleaned up and oiled for presentation.  Most things are ready to use.

Among the expected assortment of Braces and Eggbeater hand crank drills (I don’t know what the real name for these things is) he had this Millers Falls unit that was a combination Brace and eggbeater.

Neither I nor dad had ever seen one before.

I did a quick search online this evening and they don’t seem to be super rare or unusual.  It doesn’t strike me as easy to use, but it is interesting.

Thought I’d share.  I’m tempted to go back tomorrow and buy it as a wall hanger.

They are relatively scarce. I own that particular model. “ egg beater” section comes off so brace is used as a plain one. I see also three auger extensions on table. Good to have. Curious what they are asking for it. Anything under $150.00 is a good buy.

WHX??

While we got your ear Cas @formariz would you be interested in these. I'll never use them but would like to see them go to a sliver wizard that would. Basement bargain price of $1.00

Cas don’t want them lemme know Steve.

Thanks Cas.  I figured you’d at least crossed paths with one of these before.

He’s got it marked at $75.  That seemed like a fair price to me and then this evening I see them online closer to the $150 you mentioned.   Thanks!

Maybe it will be there tomorrow.  My wife will be thrilled…

Truthfully, this gentleman has nice prices on his things considering everything is cleaned up and functional.  I hemmed and hawed too long about a nice brass marking gauge he had…another guy picked it up and bought it while I was messing with this thing.   I did buy one of the auger extensions for $7.  Not sure when I’ll ever need it but seems handy to have in the drawer.

That is more than reasonable. It’s a steal.

When I was a kid my Dad had one of those egg beaters, made for those that can walk and chew gum.

Might have to ask the bro if he still has it.

Neat stuff. Thanks for posting.

Millers Falls is just down the Mohawk Trail a bit from my old home town.

Must have been.  It was gone when I went back today.   Bummer.

I didn’t get out of their unscathed though…bought a blade for my table saw.  Very exciting.
