Switching wheels

Recommended Posts

Diesel Actual

I have an 856.currently it has

Rear tire 23 x 8.50 x12 Front tire 16 x 5.50 x 8

I want to swap these two skinnier tires. I would also need new rims I think the 854 model has skinnier tires. What size are these tires and rims and where would I get them? I can’t seem to find anyone who sells wheel horse rims what is the measurement of the bolt pattern? Is there a discussion on tires on this site? I can’t find it. Thank you.

Rear bolt pattern is  5 x 4.5.

Lots of trailer wheels are made that size.

To find a used set you could place an ad in our classified section.

Or

The 854 came with 6.00x12 tires on the rear and 4.00x8 on the front.

854 front and rear are both narrower than what you have, though with similar overall diameter. I believe what you have is stock sizes.

The rear hub bolt pattern @ebinmaine cites will be the same for the narrower wheel.

The front spindle diameter will be the same (¾”) for the narrower wheel though the hub width might be different so you may need a spacer on the tractor side if you mount the 854-style wheel.

What no one has said Wheel Horses have a 1" to 1 1/2" set back on the side next to the tractor. There a lot of garden tractor wheels from other models that the 5 on 4.5 bolt circle will fit, but most have 3" or more back set.

Any 6-12 rear wheel from a garden tractor will bolt on.

For 6.00x12 tires wheel horse used a 5" rim with a 1-3/8 inch back set (viewed from the outside the center flange ends just about an 1/2" from the drop center.
