Front wheel won't come off - Raider 12

So I jacked the front of my Raider 12 up this morning and discovered one front wheel doesn't move much, it makes an audible grinding noise when turned by hand, so its really messed up. I took the axle bolt out but the wheel doesn't want to come off, I took a look at the mechanical diagram and I don't see much other than the bolt holding the wheel on. A few taps with a hammer didn't do anything, but I thought I'd ask before I get more aggressive with the hammer, unfortunately I don't have a puller, although should I really need one for a wheel?

 

I assume the bearings are probably shot and expect to chase them all over the floor when I finally get the wheel off, but we'll see. The manual diagram shows just 2 bearing, 13-03 & 13-11. I snagged this link from another post for replacements, but are all Wheel horse front bearings the same?

That's it, the bolt should be the only thing that holds it on.

The bearings are probably seized to the spindle.

Take the other side off so you can see exactly what you SHOULD be dealing with as that may help you for the stubborn wheel.

Dried grease can hold them on to where you can't just pull them off. I took a couple off last night I had to tap with a hammer to get them off.

If they have never been greased they can have a notch worn in the axle.

Yes, the bearings (2) have worn and fallen apart.  Make sure you clean out the old grease and ball bearings when you get the wheel off.    Hopefully the spindle is OK.

 

You may be able to use a 2X4 as a pry bar  between the wheel and the end of the axle to push the wheel off with out beating up the wheel with a BFH.

Replace the bearings in the other side right away.

Well, I got back to the stuck wheel this weekend, after soaking in WD40 for a week, it still doesn't budge, even with a bigger hammer. I sprayed it up again (this time from the inner side), put the wheel back on and rolled her out of the warm garage to my dry, but cold storage shed, maybe a little use around the yard will loosen it up. I took the other wheel off as suggested by @wallfish and it came right off, I was surprised by the bearings, I was expecting ball bearings based on the photo from the link posted by @Ed Kennell, but they are roller bearings. The bearing cage came right out and was intact, I assume the race was still in the hub (I was expected sealed bearings, so this was a bit of a surprise).  I put everything back in since I couldn't get the other wheel off and didn't have replacement bearings anyway. I'm beginning to rethink the effort to keep this old horse going, I recently noticed a knock in the engine when I had the hood off, the rattling hood was masking the knock

Yup, tapered. I only looked at the outer bearing since it slid out so easily and I needed to put things back together to free up garage space. The bearing was tapered like trailer bearings I've seen in the past, but the tires/wheels do look like other Wheel Horse front wheels I've seen, so I can't say about the hubs.. @Handy Don I will take some pictures next time I have it inside to see if the WD40 has helped.

I know that later 520s and the 520-HCs had roller bearings.

Your outside bearing must be rusted to the axle. It's not likely that back bearing would hold it on if it's ever been greased.

I'm guessing that it has tapered rollers on both sides.

WD40 is not going to do much for you. Might need to take the spindle off and turn the outside up and used a good penetrating oil.
