Metallic paints tend to contain a bit more translucent binder in the base to allow the flake to show through. When applied properly it should have as much (if not more) gloss. While it may show more imperfections like dents or waves (bending light) in the sheet metal - the metallic will sometimes be more forgiving for showing small pits and other surface imperfections (trapping light).
