Serious Weight Gain - Not a Problem

So after years of listening to @ebinmaine and @Ed Kennell and others drone on and on and on... and on... about the virtues of added weight for plowing snow. And having tried to gain said weight through beer and cashew consumption, to the point of annoying Mrs. Sylvan :bitch:... I have surrendered to the weight lords :bow-blue:...

 

200 lbs. (Free trash day pick up.) Crate was from my late Dad's garage when we moved him out of the house...

 

Other than paint, all parts came from stock piles, no $$$ spent on this little addition to the C105.

 

I expect traction miracles this coming winter... :scared-eek:

Nice!! 200 lbs of rather easy to install / remove and stack weights is good. I use 150 pounds of lead ingots in the toolbox under the seat on the 854.

I do prefer the weight to be in / on the tires to give the Unidrive bearings a break. Well done.

Here's my hillbilly weight addition to my C105. Total is 95lbs. Add in my 200lb lard ass too! Recently added set of Wheel Horse weight on wheels also that I scored for $50. Last winter (mild for where I live) I had plow on & despite having original hard, dried up turf tires it did pretty good. Only paid $200 for the C105 so it's hard to justify spending more than I spent on tractor on tires. Especially cause ultimately I really need a 2stage blower so that means getting a higher HP tractor. This winter will be 1st time I'm gonna try all that weight with the snowblower. Put short frame plow on my 654.

@ML3 what is supporting that weight on the rear?  I just wouldn’t want to see that bend or break something on the transmission

It's a 3/4" diameter bolt w/nut on top. It's right thru the hole on hitch drawbar. I think the hitch/transmission should be capable of holding just under 100lbs?? I've moved trailers around yard for short distances with more than 100lbs of tongue weight

If I end up hanging on to the C105 I'll probably put one of those axle mounted 2" receiver hitches. If I knew for sure it would do ok w/2 stage snowblower I'd keep it but probably need a bit more HP. Last few winters have been mild but I live in primary snow belt where we get lake effect snow. Lived here all my life & with a typical winter a single stage just won't cut it.

I put a small 4" x 4" or so steel plate between the trans case and the back of the draw bar where it hits the case. Spreads the weight and eliminates the single pressure point on the case.

I thought of doing something like that too. Maybe with a piece of stainless steel
