Finally found a rj35

I’ve been looking for a very long time for a rj35. Finally found one and best of all it was 20 minutes from home. A great addition to my 57 rj conversion tractor and rj58.

Congrats!  There was one a while back about 4 miles away for sake chained to a mailbox.  I just couldn’t pull the trigger on a second one at that point in time.

Here is a better picture. It’s missing belt guard and gas tank but overall a pretty solid little tractor.

                 That is a great looking RJ, what are your plans for it?  Looks like a very easy restoration candidate.

First off I’m going to pull the rear tires to get a look at the hubs and axle. I know there was a bearing and oil seal cross reference numbers for the rj58 transmission. Can’t find the one for the rj35 tho.

That was sort of my first reaction but with the rims having been painted other colors and looks like an older repaint the "original Barn Find" aspect is kind of gone for me.

Hey that’s great news that the original barn find is gone for you. Now I can restore my tractor as I see fit.

I pulled the hubs off. Normal wear I guess. But this was a bit of a shocker. The original pawl clip must have broke or was lost. So they made this. It actually worked very good. I love what people come up with to fix a problem.

I’m looking for a pawl clip and an early reproduction belt guard. I can’t seem to find Joe Papke contact info. Or is there possibly another vendor who would possibly have these parts. Thanks for any help

Not going to bore anyone with another mechanical restoration but while I was honing bushings yesterday I was thinking about how people name their tractors. My brother named my conversion tractor Apples. We got a laugh out of it.

So I was thinking about naming this one Zerk.  Like I said before people do some wild things to their tractors.

I’m not having any luck finding those parts yet. Members have given me suggestions but for some reason I can’t get in touch or I don’t get a response. So I figured the Wheel Horse Gods just want me to make my own parts. Did put new bearings and bushings in. New back inner tubes also. Rims turned black again. Working on the motor now. It was striped of everything but the exhaust. It was rebuilt at one time .020 piston is in there. All still looks nice and tight. So new coil, wires and points. Need carb gasket and torque the head. Then we will see what happens.
