ReelFaster 53 #1 Posted October 8, 2022 Hi folks newer WH owner here, been going well since I bought her a few months back. Was pulling my firewood trailer around to the garage to load up some barn doors I built to haul around back. Left the tractor running and started loading the barn doors into the trailer when it suddenly died. Had it running earlier that day with no issues. Finished loading and tried to restart and the engine oil light just keeps blinking. Oil is clean and full, engine kicks over everything electrical works but just won't start. Couldn't have happen at a worse possible time, stuck on the lawn with two 60"x94" barn doors and a trailer attached to it. Any idea's what to look for? Just sold my craftsman riding mower I used to use to do this, Dang it!
Bill D 2,246 #2 Posted October 8, 2022 Welcome. That light is flashing because the engine is not running and making oil pressure. Check for melted fuses in the fuse holder. Check the 9 pin connector between the engine wiring harness and tractor wiring harness for burnt pins and signs of overheating. If you have a jumper with small alligator clips, you can jump from the positive terminal on the battery to the positive terminal on the coil and see if it starts. If it starts, check the items above, also check the connections on the PTO safety switches and seat safety switch. If you post a picture of the model and serial number @gwest_ca can provide you with a wiring diagram for your machine.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,471 #3 Posted October 8, 2022 Download this file. Each major circuit has it's own diagram making it easier to follow Warning - the wire colors between the engine connector and the engine may not be correct.
ReelFaster 53 #4 Posted October 8, 2022 Just want to say thank you for the replies first and foremost. What I am about to say is extremely embarrassing and if the moderators feel compelled to ban me or suspend me for a period of time I would completely agree. It had no gas! There I said it, my apologies to all, didn't mean to panic and run asking for help. I tend to do that when I don't know much about something. I am not the best with small engines, I know very basics but always eager to learn and learned much over the years to folks like yourselves on this forum. To my very small defense, rough busy day, lots of things going on and then got to building to those barn doors, they took a lot of out of me and were pretty heavy to move. Also was sick with Covid this past week so not 100% just yet. Swore I put gas in the WH just a week or so ago, but I think she drinks a lot more gas then my Craftsman did and I am learning that the hard way today. Again thanks for the quick replies and awesome info, I think I'll go lick my wounds! Thanks again to all! 2

Ed Kennell 41,913 #7 Posted October 9, 2022 Here's a tip. When you run out of gas while you are mowing. You go for gas and fill the tank and it still will not start. The PTO is probably still engaged. I hear this happened to quite a few of our seasoned members.

kpinnc 14,625 #9 Posted October 9, 2022 I can't remember all the times I've done things like that, and sometimes much worse! Trying to sit on an old Charger with the seat latch open... Wish I had that one on video. Or something as small as "troubleshooting" why a tractor wasn't getting fuel, only to find out the shutoff valve was closed. So don't sweat the little stuff. We've all done it. Just enjoy a good chuckle with yourself and know you're not alone!

I've started working, got the machine outta the garage and it died in the driveway. Took me about an hour to realize the shutoff was closed. The next time it took about a half hour. Next time, 15 minutes. I'm down to about 30 seconds now! 1

rmaynard 16,292 #12 Posted October 9, 2022 Here's one for the books. When I was a kid, my father bought a new Montgomery Ward riding lawn mower. After a couple of weeks, he asked me to change the oil, saying that the first oil is only break-in oil, and for long life we needed to put in a good 30 weight. So I drained the oil, put the drain plug back in, started the engine and drove it up to garage to get oil. What was I thinking? I never told anyone, and that mower lasted at least until I got out of high school. I went into the military after school, and don't recall when he got rid of it, but it never had any engine problems. 1

kpinnc 14,625 #22 Posted October 12, 2022 My dad bought me a push mower when I was about 12 years old- so I could start making my own money. Best life lesson I ever got. Close second life lesson? He used to say "use it all you want with no gas, but don't let me catch you using it with no oil". To this day, I still have a look at the dipstick on all my tractors before cranking. I just wish I had brains enough to go over the rest (gas, battery charged, etc) each time. I'd get way more done every day!
