Hey everyone! I got my painting done today. Have been waiting for a warm enough day but today was perfect. I was pretty happy with the paint. Now to let it cure for a week and put 'er back together with decals and such. All the prep work paid off. I used Toro red from toro. The paint is older than I am lol. Also a perfect project to test out the new paint booth and 3M paint gun.

Both products worked wonderfully. Here are some before and afters of the Bleche White. I just dumped the tires in a wheel barrow and poured in about 1/4 of the bottle of bleche white. I scrubbed them with a stiff nylon brush then rinsed off. That small amount of the cleaner did a lot of tires!

Here is a before and after cleaning and painting to an original tire in the same condition that hasn't been cleaned or painted.

 

 

Here is a comparison of just a cleaned tire and a painted tire. 

 

 

 

I used just a few ounces of the 128 ounces of paint. It was diluted very heavily probably 1:5 to spray in a gun.  I am certain that this one gallon would do every tire I will ever own in my lifetime.  It was very easy to apply too, and unlike paint even when it was literally dripping off the tire it left no runs or discoloring. 

 

Here they are all painted and ready to mount.

It is the same orientation as the 854 and I've got a pic of it before restoration its the same way.

The K181s I've seen on 854s have all had a larger dry-type air cleaner vs. the one used on the K161--the larger displacement needing more airflow to breath properly. It measures ~3" from carb face to the front of the outer housing. BTW, it's this extra length that causes the 854 to need a longer hood than its 703 predecessor!

 

Also, the K181 air cleaner can only be mounted one way because its base has a bracket secured to threaded holes in the side of the carb body. 

(Note: the threaded holes on the otherwise excellent carb pictured here were damaged when it came to me so I used JB Weld to convert the holes to studs for holding the air cleaner base bracket.)

I have restored a few tractors over the years and was using the Miller's Tire Paint initially. It worked great and was a good product. However, with the coordination of a few fellow forum members and doing some sniffing and testing, we have found that diluted black latex paint does the same thing for a much cheaper price. Not banging tire paint specific products, they work. I'm just suggesting you can do it cheaper with possibly the same results I will let you know because I'm getting ready to do the tire on this . . .

Ok, maybe it was answered in another post I missed, but where did you get the inflatable spray booth ? I have spent time doing 2x3 enclosures with plastic, but this looks pretty cool since you can put it away from everything you don't wany oversprayed!

You need to quit tryin to hackin off your hand and visit here more often Tom... just had a discussion on these awhile back. Do a  on them or search here. Turns out they offer them in all different pay grades. Quite the cats meow I understand.

I like the old Miller Tire paint that was concentrated not diluted like the current Miller Tire Paint.  I have a little of the old stuff left.  I may have to try this Stealth Tire Paint as it says it’s concentrated too!   On the old rj rear tires this type of tire paint makes a huge difference in appearance!

Update on the 702 she’s all put together and running… waiting on the weather to warm up to paint the factory rims. It’s got some donors on now.
