I was the winning bidder on a pump powered by a Kohler K91R engine. Based on its specs it’s a 1961. I don’t really have a need for it at the moment, but couldn’t pass it up. Here’s what I found about the K91… Model: Kohler K91 Spec Number: 31504A Serial Number: 3019680 Horsepower: ~4 HP Shaft Orientation: Horizontal (most likely, based on spec) Year of Manufacture: 1961 About Spec Number 31504A Kohler’s spec number identifies the exact configuration of the engine — including shaft size, PTO options, mounting patterns, and whether it’s for a tractor, generator, or industrial use. While full public spec decoding guides are rare, the “A” suffix usually designates a factory revision or minor configuration changes. Spec 31504A is known to have been used on early Wheel Horse tractors, most likely models like: RJ-58 RJ-59 Suburban 400 or 550

Husband wants some advice… lol. So we did an engine swap today on two suburbans because we could not get the one engine to spark all the time to get it running! The engine ran last year before parking for the winter sleep…. Points were changed out for new the engine was cleaned to make good contact has new spark plug new coil condenser we even switched out the fly wheel today thinking maybe the magnet was weak…. Advice??? It would where are you out yanking on the recoil five or so times and maybe only get the points to fire twice if you’re lucky.. checked the gap and pull again… same thing over and over! Thanks in advance!

Morning all, Nigel and I fired up his suburban yesterday and although the engine sounds sweet with no nasty noises the govenor arm does not move freely. Cleaning it and a touch of oil has helped a bit but it's still too stiff to move as it should. Are we going to have to pull the engine out and pull it apart to see if the problem is internal or will the gov free itself up after a while? I'm guessing were not the only ones to have this problem, so what did you do to sort it? Thanks Guys.
