Belt keeps jumping off

Recommended Posts

cafoose

I got this Bearcat 73040 trimmer and the belt keeps jumping off after about two minutes of running. It's a pain to put it back on because I have to remove 7 bolts to get to it and reach inside a very small opening to feed it back on the pulleys. I took a straight edge and made sure the pulleys were aligned properly. The bearings are good and the belt is new and tight. What could be causing it?

Hard to believe the belt can get out of those pulleys.     What's with the empty key slot in the one pic?

Well, if my years in IT taught me anything relevant to this it's that if you leave that lower guard off that belt will never jump again.

The principal being "The sooner you put it together, the sooner you have to take it back apart" and the corresponding real world application being that if you never bother to finish putting it together it somehow stays fixed.

The problem with that is the lower cover supports the cutter head/pulley assembly, the front cover is easy with only 3 bolts, and the rear cover supports the handle.

I read “belts” in my mind and was confused when I couldn’t find any more than one!  :laughing-rolling:

Maybe because I said "bolts" and your mind read "belts" :eusa-think:

Could you fashion some belt retainers similar to the ones on our horses at the engine pulley.

I ordered a Stens True Blue belt. I'll see how that goes if not, I may try something like that. A search on the internet and I found nobody else that had that same problem with that machine :eusa-think:
