Yes, you can run a 2 stage blower with a smaller engine but performance is the big sacrifice in doing so. I don't want to be out there any longer than required in the freezing cold removing snow and especially doing it as slow as possible. HP makes a huge difference in the speed in which snow flies. Same thing for a single stage too. Once switched a SS from a 416 down to 10 hp tractor and noticed the compared lack of performance immediately. The 10 Hp worked OK but certainly not as well as the 16 Hp did. Quickly switched it back. If there was a 30 HP WH tractor I'd switch the 2 stage to that.

Beap52 1,520 #28 Posted August 28 I have 520H because it was given to me. It had sat in a barn for over ten years and had become an apartment for mice. The owner wanted it out of there. Spent about six hundred dollars on getting it running and new tires. I like using it and often times mow our yard with it sometimes even though we've got a zero turn. We've got an area of our yard that is prone to standing water. The Zero turn bogs down in it's own ruts whereas the 520's wider tires is able to navigate "the swamp." I've also used it to help keep neighbor's empty lot mowed. I like the sound of the engine and with 1,000 hours it does not smoke and pops right off. I really enjoy how easy it steers. With the arm rests, it's a comfortable ride. I use it when pulling the "implements" such as boom sprayer, dethatcher, aerator, the gravel driveway drag, fertilizer buggy and trailer. I wouldn't pull these with the zero turn. Once I got the wiring sorted out, I have not had any issues. This mower is kept inside. The shop where I buy parts says our town has a 520 pushing 3,000 hours.
