Recommended Posts

SO... I was looking on Craigslist... as... @davem1111 and I rather consistently... maybe even obsessively do...

And... I saw THIS... which... well... I'll just hand this over to you guys...

This is listed as: Vintage Antique Wheelhorse push mower...

I only see one similar machine online... and this is what it looks like...

23 Reo

I think they are old Reo mowers sold under the Wheel Horse name.

I’ve had a couple of the old Reo-Wheel Horse models and don’t remember any of them looking like that one. Could be, of course, but the cast decks were a little different on them.

FWIW they also offered a push (and self propelled) mower in the mid/late 1980’s. They were contract built by MacLane and were very well engineered machines.  Not terribly common.

even more uncommon was the walk behind tiller from the same time period.  Not sure who made that one for them.

don’t forget the Edger/Trimmer…also a MacLane.

Well... I thought about it... but I'm just a little wary... :hand:

I swear... the deck and wheels look just like one of the older HYPER TOUGH models that I have seen/had...

TO me... it just doesn't seem 100% legit... I could always be wrong though... :eusa-think:

I don't know where this one fits into the mix, but it just showed up last night on a local-ish CraigsList.  It has both Toro and Wheel Horse tags, maybe one of the MacLane mowers that @wh500special mentioned?

I think that’s just the selling dealer’s sticker.  I believe it’s just a regular Toro.

The Wheel Horse Vac Mower - built by McLane - looked like these pictures.  The color and decals were the same maroon style used on the 1980’s tractors like the 310, 414, etc.  The wheels were gray and they even had little horse heads molded into them in their centers.  Cutting height was adjusted by crank.

Very nice mowers.

WH also had listed the walk behind reel mowers which I presume also came from McLane.  But I’ve never seen one.
