8ntruck 7,818 #1 Posted July 7, 2022 The web browser I am currently use in seems to be more and more oriented towards selling things. It is getting aggravating to get mainly sales sites when I am looking for information, not where to order something. Either I need to change the phrasing on my search entries, or I need to find an alternate browser. What browsers are you folks using. Comments? lynnmor 7,813 #2 Posted July 7, 2022 I use Firefox and Ghostery https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ghostery/ Try an ad blocker for whatever browser you use.
ebinmaine 72,546 #3 Posted July 7, 2022 I personally have an Android device at home and work and Google mail. Doesn't matter to me a half a whisker if some jamoche wants to track me so I just use the system search Trina and I refer to as the "googlebox". I've heard of many others using Firefox.

wallfish 18,076 #5 Posted July 7, 2022 Firefox here. Ads and pop ups aren't a problem The search engine you use can be the problem too. I use yahoo because that's what I'm used to. Google seems to send me all over the place and it definitely takes longer to find whatever I'm looking for but I get more relevant information on Yahoo and typically no need to go past the first page. Try some different search engines and go through the settings to help eliminate some of the BS
953 nut 59,885 #6 Posted July 7, 2022 I'm sold on Google, was on Internet Explorer and had all sorts of adds etc. With google my home page has my most frequently visited sites one click away. My granddaughter set it up for me so I can't give you any specifics but I have no pop ups or other BS. When doing a search you need to look at the IP address to know you aren't being directed to another site but I think that is the case with any web browser.

Get your granddaughter to review ALL of the privacy settings for the browser, as well. Google is more than happy to allow any of its own websites and others' websites to place cookies for tracking and profiling you as well as permitting a website you open to "phone home" to as many as 15 or so other websites via trackers. (Notes: this site, wheelhorseforum.com, does not use trackers--Kudos! Weather.com typically profiles you with 21 trackers!) Other browsers like Firefox and Safari are more restrictive and typically block trackers as well as blocking un-acknowledged access to your "anonymous" advertiser ID.
