Absolutely agreed!!

I've liked stone/rock walls since I were a wee one and had a nice row of boulders to play on.

I'm VERY impressed with the way our new wall turned out.

I was hoping to have the back of the area further into the woods so I can access the rear building door easier with the truck.

Not a big deal.

Trina and I will clean up the log pile and rearrange the stones in front of the building.

I'll relocate the building a few feet closer to the road.

Easy fix.

There's a nice ramp on the far side of the area at the back for access to the forest on that side.

It's a bit steep but no more so than a couple of the hill paths out in the woods we built ourselves.  Should pack down nicely.

He also built in a little ramp off the far side of the driveway for easier access. Again not something I asked for.

Excellent work.

At the back of the new excavation area there's a hill that covers maybe 15 x 40 or more square feet in area.

Knowing we need to prevent erosion I asked the owner of the construction company and the counter folk at our local farm supply store.

Both advised a fast growing winter rye wheat grass.

I picked up a 50 lb bag and Trina and I tossed chucked and broadcast the wee little seeds all about.

In the mostly shaded area we should see germination in a couple weeks.

Not the best pic but it's the only one I have...

So it starts, the guy that doesn’t mow tossed 50 lb of grass seed on the ground.

I have a BBT for mowing. 😁

Really though... This area will likely only get trimmed once a year after it goes to seed to make it a perennial self sustaining growth.

Always nice taking delivery of building supplies.

Gotta ask though, is this a common or standard way of unloading things like this?

Overhere in the Netherlands the person dropping stuff of like this could load it right back up and change it out for new/undamaged materials.

We dump/slide building materials on a very regular basis over here.

Rarely harms anything.

There is more and more movement toward using small loader cranes, wallboard (overhead pin) cranes, and demountable forklifts.

I've delivered a good many sets of these type trusses with a crane over the years.

It's EXTREMELY time consuming because the insurance industry and legalese has super over regulated everything we do.

These trusses are made to order per building spec.

There is no return.

If on the odd chance one was broken it would have to be remade or repaired onsite.

When I built my house in 1975 the framing lumber and plywood was in one large bundle.  The truck was just a standard flat bed, no tilt, no rollers.  The driver simply backed up fast and slammed on the brakes then pulled forward, it was ugly to watch but no real damage.

So when does construction actually start :scratchead:  Will this be done before your winter starts? Comes early in Maine doesn't it?

Like a lot of other places in the country we've had some pretty serious challenges getting materials.

There's also the issue of employment.

The building industry as a whole and also transportation are experiencing major shortages in workers both skilled and unskilled.

As of a couple days ago when I talked to the builder last, he's hoping to start digging post holes somewhere around September 20th, 25th.

With a full crew he could put up a building like mine in about 6 weeks.

He's been running around 8 weeks on average.

So if he gets started by October 1st then he would be pretty well finished up by December 1st.

We can get Frost here anytime after Labor day. Recordable snow is relatively rare in October and November but does happen.

We should have most of the winter in the new building.... If not all of it.

This afternoon Trina AKA "The Paint Department" began coating the siding boards for the pole barn.

1 x 10 T&G rough one side.

Looking good. You should get that girl a spray gun. It would free up some backhoe time for her.

WOW!!

Did we get some painting done today.  .....

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 sq ft.

That'll be more than enough to cover the second floor and then some.

Here's a few pics starting from this morning.

Trina and I were rolling the face and groove edge. Her mom was brushing the top surface of the tongue.

We started out both just painting right on the pine unit but I found after a few minutes I needed a higher work area.

Cinnamon Horse C160 and the utility trailer worked quite well.

Long shot of the whole shebang.

Earlier this morning the builder left his trailer and this Ditch Witch brand machine.

Forks. Light ground work. Most importantly.. it's the auger for making the pole holes.

24" diameter holes 48"+ deep. Around 28 to 30 of them.
