Need help, swapping sediment bowl for shutoff valve (875)

After having my 875 up and running for 1 day, the sediment bowl decided to start weeping at its shutoff valve. I’ve decided to do like others have done and forego the bowl for a straight shut-off valve. Are there models that screw into the existing threaded nipple coming out of the tank (don’t know the measurement at the moment) that you would recommend? Thanks!

Thanks @Achto! I’d still need to get an adapter (the tank nipple is threaded on the outside), but that shouldn’t be too hard to find.

You need to remove the existing nipple to install this. Note that it has a permanent fine mesh screen filter - when it clogs, you need to remove the shutoff (again) to clean it. I removed the screen on mine completely and use a small see-through inline filter between the shutoff and the fuel pump, A bonus - you always can see if fuel is flowing that way.

The nipple coming from your tank should be a 1/8" NPT (National Pipe Thread) that is soldered into the tank. You probably won't find a 1/8" NPT valve or elbow at any local hardware stores. These two items from  should do the trick.

Curious.  All of my square hood tractors have a female thread in the tank.

My 1055 has a male nipple soldered in place as do the 953s and the 1267 tank I gave to Mike. Sediment bowl/shut off looks like this one.

When I changed the ebow on my 857 tank it threaded into the tank.

Here’s a shot of the bottom of the tank, showing where the bowl assembly attaches. I forgot to check, but doesn’t that look like a rubber grommet around the nipple? Edited to add, I'm now just realizing that that piece sticking out is likely not part of the tank, was added to accommodate the shut off like others have mentioned (slow Tuesday morning after a long weekend, sorry). So I should be able to unscrew that piece and install a valve like Achto shared (or leave it in and grab a few adapter pieces).

 

When I removed the bowl assembly and looked down inside from the top into the threaded area, the black rubber seal for the shutoff was partially sticking up, torn…the culprit.

That is just a raised portion of metal around the threads. I can see threads on the nipple where it goes into the tank. Use a little thread sealer when you install the new petcock.

That's what the tank looked like on my 1045, I just took that nipple out of the bottom tank and screwed the new shut off in, in place of the sediment bowl.

OK, thanks everyone! I got the nipple removed and the new shut-off valve ordered. I ran new fuel lines the other day and included a clear in-line filter already so should be a quick install near the tank.
