Okay you guys got me! Lol Where's the drain plug for this 1277 trans hydrostatic unit  I've looked at the manual either my eyes are shot... or I can use one of the lower most bolts as a drain.

Should be on the bottom of the transmission back near the trailer hitch. Check this pile of muck in the blue circle.

953 nut

Going to need a 1/4" Allen Wrench to remove it once the crud is picked out of the opening.

WHX??

Paul's pic shows how it can often get mashed by the draw bar.

I see you use the same canned fuel I do @pfrederi... thought's on it?

I use the canned fuel all the time. 50:1 for the Sthil 2 strokers and the 4cycle for  seasonal storage. VP Fuels 94 from TSC for the 1467 which runs about 2 hrs. a year. Smells a little like Cam 2 racing gas! :banana-wrench::auto-driving:

Headed that way. Stuff has got an ungodly shelf life.

I went with 40:1 in everything. Got tired of figuring what mix went in what 2 stroker.

So it looks like motor oil flows like motor oil and smells a hint of transfluid... have one line off and plug out sitting over night like that I removed the seat box (what a pain with that hydraulic line....) to see if there are leaks. Picking up filter and oil tomorrow should I go with trans fluid or engine oil?? Which one will hold up better?? And now I have room to smack out these concrete wheel weights...stuck in there real good.

Seems to me that if it smells like oil with a hint of ATF then someone changed it to engine oil at some point in the past without doing a proper drain/flush/empty etc.

I s'pose I'd get regular oil inexpensive 10W30 and a Wix or Napa filter. Baldwin is also good. IMHO don't use fram.

You'll definitely want to clean that transmission cooling fin set some.

Also... Investigate what is hitting the cooling fan edge and rectify that. Check the fan for cracks.

The fan screen screws usually rot off causing the screen to whack the fan. Also the fan metal is super thin and cracks easy. Good straight fans are hard to come by.
