Amazing Steam Tractor Prices at Auction

Recommended Posts

oliver2-44

While I'm familiar with steam power plants, I really don't know much about steam tractors.  I followed this auction and was amazed at the value these beast sold for.  Of course their over 100 years old and not many left around.  While their really cool, but as @Achto said, I don't think I will ever afford/own one.  But one can still watch them and drool over them.

A fellow died a couple years back and he had a few of them. A couple rare ones I forget the model but 1 got donated to the Steam Association and another went for close to a half million. They were hauling tractors from his property 3 months after the auction date

Really cool auction listing. Most of those tractors are kerosene and gas tractors, still great tractors and historic works of art. Almost tipped over when I saw the price on the 30-60 Case .

Of the 2 steamer's out of the bunch I would have liked either one.

The 1/2 scale Best was actually with in reach for an average collector.

Very cool stuff!!! :eusa-clap:

Actually pretty similar pricing to some :wh:‘s on Craigslist these days…

“…ran when parked…” etc.

And some of that pricing can be driven by provenance. I.E. previous owner "squonk".

Big boy toys for sure anyway you cut it!

I am always intrigued by "unusual" machines, cars, trains, tractors, airplanes, printing presses, etc.   My parents were from the Brookville/Lewisburg area west of Dayton, Ohio, and we lived near there till I was about 11 years old. One thing I remember is seeing steam tractors in a parade and/or show and being in awe of their size and power.

I tried to find some info on local stuff around there but that was more than 50 years ago and info is sparse.  I did find this website that has a good collection of articles about steam tractors, among other things:  https://www.farmcollector.com/steam-engines/   Thought it was worth a share.

Amazing how much some of those old machines are worth now!  :o

Then figure in the cost to haul them..... can't exactly toss them on a utility trailer  ;)

I’m sure there’s a mini truck somewhere that could haul a steamer just fine!

In our area the club pays to have your steam tractor hauled to and from the show if they want it there. Out side of that, your on your own.
