I just purchased my first Wheel Horse, a WH GT1800 with damaged engine and this forum looks like it will assist me in repair. I pick it up in a few days and anxious to start on it, I am undecided on the engine situation. I may convert to electric or repair/replace engine. Most of the conversions I have done are DC, current technology is AC or multiple phase DC. Lithium, high amp controller and motor can get you good performance, there will be a lot of cost involved.
