MAD MARK 74 #1 Posted April 11, 2022 Bought a 12hp (301k?) engine from a guy that said it was in a wheel horse. Trying to put into a newer framed 414-8. I am rewiring everything and have it all figured out except the charging side of things. I do not have a rectifier/regulator and was wondering how I find out what parts I need. The engine is in and bolted and I have 2 white wires coming off the stator. Below is a picture if that helps any. That is the only sticker I see on it. You will need a regulator/rectifier like this one. https://www.amazon.com/DB-Electrical-AKH6000-Rectifier-Regulator/dp/B019DHPMAS/ref=asc_df_B019DHPMAS/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=167148561991&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1837727688896392792&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9019452&hvtargid=pla-307268367982&psc=1 White wires from the stator go to the 2 outside terminals. Wire from the key switch that is positive power when the switch is in the "ON" position will go on the center terminal. Make sure that the body of the reg/rec has a good ground. WHX?? 51,732 #3 Posted April 11, 2022 I was going to say this one https://www.amazon.com/DB-Electrical-AKH6001Rectifier-Regulator-Engines/dp/B019DHPM44/ref=psdc_5285461011_t1_B019DHPMAS but Dan's a faster typer. I believe you can get plug harnesses for both types. 1
Achto 29,388 #4 Posted April 11, 2022 Yep, either one should work. On the style that Jim posted the two wires from the stator will go on the top 2 terminals. Switch "ON" battery power to the lower terminal.
MAD MARK 74 #6 Posted April 11, 2022 Thanks guys! I saw a lot of different rec/regs but wasnt sure if it really mattered which one. Both of the ones you posted are cheaper than what I found though!
WHX?? 51,732 #7 Posted April 11, 2022 Other styles often need flywheel fan cooling ...these types have a larger heat sink so don't. Dan's was a bit bit cheaper but bet the ranch both are made offshore. 1

pfrederi 18,644 #9 Posted April 11, 2022 Those big finned regulators come in two sizes 15 amp and 10 amp. Obviously you can use a 15 amp regulator on a 10 amp stator but not a 10 amp regulator on a 15 amp stator. big blocks had both 10 and 15 amp stators over the years... Check you spec number to find out which you have... 1
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,472 #10 Posted April 11, 2022 The 15 amp are usually cheaper likely because of supply and demand.
peter lena 9,252 #11 Posted April 11, 2022 @MAD MARK , agree with @Achto , @WHX?? , @pfrederi , even @ gwest _ ca , on that set up , that better ground is vital , notice all the paint on that ? add another ground cable from the battery bolt point to the lower corner of the engine / frame / clutch pedal area . scrape of paint use serrated washers . I also bolt on a 3/8" hole electrical lug , to that . then run a separate 10-12 ga wire to your rectifier base bolts on cooling tin . from there , you can add a better ground to your headlights . like having a main line ground . just an idea while you are there , keep it sparky , pete
