Is this what I have?

Okay friends husband and I brought home another mutilated mutation that I felt sorry for and wanted to fix….  Questions will it run??  Lol… what model for sure?  So I believe it’s an 854 and would like feed back to confirm..  lots of stuff coming off… has the k181s tag on the engine!  Two piece gas tank!  So if my friends on here would agree or disagree I would be able to see how much I have been learning over the years!

Looks a lot like my 854, there's quite a few modifications on that tractor.

I've been wrong before, but many of the parts and shape of things look very similar to an 854.  Man can these tractors go through changes over the years. :text-lol:

I agree it "looks" like an 854, definitely later than 1962. Could be a 753 with the K181 added. A couple of ways to tell - does it have the longer 8 HP air cleaner? Measure the hood  854 hoods are about 1 inch longer if measured along the center rib in front of the gas tank up to grill section - compare it to your 702.

The plow is a very early one - probably around 1962 - the "Jockey shift" angling handle gives it away. It does not use a Unidrive mount, instead it is loosely fastened to the two lower holes on the sides of the frame plate.

If you can get it running I wouldn't change a thing. You can decide if you need hearing protection after you get it running.

I’d like to see how those 4 bolt wheels are on the stock hubs… if you get the rear wheels off I’d love a picture :handgestures-thumbupright:

Looks like one of those rare 854 with all the factory race options, they used the PBR cans to hide their super hot coil :auto-layrubber:

Your serial number 45369 is in line with the other serial numbers listed in the Red Square file section for the 854 model. In fact it looks like @gwest_ca may have already added your serial number to the list not that long ago. -JD-

      Hello All!

Added THREE tractors all at once yesterday(09/16/2025).  Two model 854, and one model 855.  The two 854 look pretty nice, but are not running right this minute  --does not look like much more than a little tinkering/refreshing after sitting for a long time.  The 855 was labelled a "parts" tractor, but except for it being Really well-used looking, it seems to be all there so I am not going to consider it out of play yet.  The two 854's have rear discharge mower  decks...one is a square style deck, the other the rounded style deck.

I think it is really nice that all three are basically the same machine, separated by one year, yet completely different styles--the end of one era and the beginning of another I guess.

There is an ID tag on the 855 (serial number 135166) but on the two 854 tractors, there is No tag under the steering like late models.  Are the tags in a different place on older machines?  Looking them over, I do not notice anything obvious.  The 854 with the lower Kohler engine serial number has the round style mover deck, while the one with the slightly higher engine serial number has the square style deck.

All for now!  Be well and stay safe.

As a retired 61-year-old who inherited 4 of my Grandfather's Wheel Horse tractors, I found a valuable resource in this forum. Here, I connected with Bob Parks (Racinbob), who at the time lived nearby and kindly agreed to help me identify all of them. I ended up keeping the 1964 Model 854 and sold the others. The 854 is a solid, primarily original tractor, and I've been using it since I was 6-years-old. I also had the RM-364 mower deck attachment, which had not been on the tractor for many years. Once again, this forum proved its worth as I could identify and obtain some attachment parts that I was missing. Last week, after some adjustments, I put the mower deck to use and mowed nearly an acre of grass without any issues. The sense of accomplishment in identifying and restoring the equipment was truly inspiring, and I felt like I was a kid again.

As someone who doesn't consider themselves 'mechanically inclined,' I've grown and learned much through this project. I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all of those who guided me and showed me that with the right support, even the most daunting tasks can be tackled.

These belts have been hanging in my garage since last used I believe there off a 754 I used to have. Bought them new and didn't use much.
Don't know why I took them off. Some fraying on top in a few places from use, also don't know why but selling as is and photo'd. 20.00 shipped if you can use them.
PM for PayPal info or questions. 16" ID approx.
