Skwerl58 763 #1 Posted April 4, 2022 I started trying to get the GT14 running today and made some progress. It does turn over well and has fire. The gas tank had some funk in it and it cleaned up good. The carb was full of sandy, slimy looking residue so I cleaned it and saved the bowl until last. After cleaning the bowl it has a hole corroded in it. I need a bowl and since I am into it I want a good carb kit with a float. I checked the vendors here for the kit but did not find the bowl here. Also read that a B&S bowl 221995 is the same, can someone verify this? Thanks!
Handy Don 14,054 #2 Posted April 4, 2022 (edited) I've never seen a carb rebuild kit come with a bowl. Occasionally with a float, yes. Just a warning...the complete 3rd party carbs do NOT always have the same dimensions for their components as the OEMs--parts may not interchange. I've run across two already--one had metric threads on the needle valves and the other had a metric sized nut for the main jet. So, a bowl or float from one of them might not fit as a replacement on your OEM carb. All the KITS I've gotten have worked as they should. If the float is brass it's likely not in need of replacement unless obviously corroded or damaged. A to Z Tractor in PA might have a kit.
Skwerl58 763 #5 Posted April 5, 2022 Thanks for the replies. The B&S bowl will save enough to cover the carb kit.

Bill D 2,247 #8 Posted April 6, 2022 I only use the Briggs 221995 bowl when I rebuild Kohler carbs. The bowl is identical, just made of anodized steel instead of aluminum. Way cheaper and more corrosion resistant.

These don't have the bowl drain, though, right?

Bill D 2,247 #11 Posted April 7, 2022 I believe Carter made both Kohler carbs and Briggs carbs, hence the bowls being identical.
peter lena 9,252 #12 Posted April 7, 2022 @Skwerl58 perfect opportunity , install this in your fuel pump to carb fuel hose , make it up before installation. arrow up , vertical placement , holds fuel in place for quick starts , this works , have it on my 3 magnum engines ,https://www.amazon.com/EVIL-ENERGY-Return-Petrol-Aluminium/dp/B07ZB42CGT, I use the spring clamps , install the last 2 on the line , away from fitting , install line / valve , then slide the clamps in place , makes it easy . lots of hours on this , instant starts , if your fuel pump is good , this is the fix . pete
