Replacement Hubs

I have a new-to me 1990 520 with a KwikWay loader. Have been going thu piece by piece and checking for anything that needs attention. Found some wobble in the rear hubs (both sides) the key ways on both the axles and hubs shoe some pretty heavy wear.  Was wondering if you have used the hub repair kits that A-Z sells and any comments good or bad?

I was at A-to-Z a couple weeks ago to pick up some parts and looked at one of these hubs. They are absolutely bombproof--full stop.

You can forget having a repeat of the wallowed out axles/hubs with these--they clench to the axle all the way around, not just at the key.

If I needed new hubs on a really hard working machine, I'd be looking at these. A good used standard hub will be $50+ so the price seems worth it to me.

A-Z offers wheel hubs for both 1" and 1-1/8" axle shaft diameters. I purchased a set of 1-1/8" hubs. They are manufactured from a SD QD bushing and weld-on hub which are rated at 5000 Lb-In when the bushing screws are torqued to 108 Lb-In.

A 1/4 X 1-3/8, #22 woodruff key, P/N 937108, made of 1018 CD material is rated at 2256 Lb-In. Torque (Lb-in) = Length X Diameter X Width X Yield Strength / 12 = (1.375 In.) X (1.125 In.) X (0.25 In.) X (70,000 Lb/Sq. In.) /12 = 2256 Lb-In.

The QD bushing is designed like a collet that grips the shaft. The bushing is rated over twice that of the key and can transfer more torque than the key. An absolutely beautiful design.

I just received 2 of those hubs from a-z tractor.

$110. each.  I have not installed them yet but they look very well made!

Yikes I did't think they were that much but I suppose. 

How well do they work on axles that are not true to round anymore or have wear marks? Are they keyed in any way? 

I handled one when A-Z had them at the BS but don't remember .

Your call Bob I can put new key ways in the hubs for $60.00 including shipping. If the axle has issues tho?? is the big question.

Figured you'd go that route Bob and might just be the best one considering the FEL use. 

Keep us posted on how things go & any chance we can see a couple of pics of your rig? 

 

This whole thread is a good reminder to check those hubs & set screws before things get out of hand. Especially with the demand a FEL puts on them.
