850ford 3 #1 Posted March 27, 2022 I recently replaced the Pto safety switch on 1980 C165 (#104680).It now starts fine, but engine quits when PTO is engaged .Could it be a .bad switch? Thanks
953 nut 52,812 #2 Posted March 27, 2022 It is probably the seat switch or the wires leading to it.

850ford 3 #4 Posted March 27, 2022 Would it still start with a bad seat switch? Or does the seat switch kill the engine only when PTO is engaged?
8ntruck 6,571 #5 Posted March 27, 2022 (edited) Yup. The seat switch kills the engine when the pato is engaged and the operator leaves the seat. The pto switch prevents the engine from cranking with the pto engaged. Jump the seat switch temporarily and see if the engine stays running when you engage the pto. 1940willys 96 #7 Posted April 11, 2022 Switch's are manufactured two different ways. Normally On, or Normally Off. My guess is you installed the wrong type of switch. You want a normally off switch so that when you pull the lever to activate the implement the switch is turned on
