Mustang67ford 234 #1 Posted February 22, 2022 Working on a 414 with a 3a AC charging system. The AC stator lead for the lights had been bypassed and headlights were running off DC from the battery. Most likely so the lights stay the same brightness and on even with engine off. If I want to put it back to factory, I assume I will need to change headlights to an AC compatible lamp correct? They are 36w 12v par 36 halogen now.

I am guilty of that mod because I want the be able to turn the lights on whit out the engine running.
pfrederi 18,563 #3 Posted February 22, 2022 The halogen bulbs won't care DC or AC. The lighting stator puts out around 12 volts more a full throttle less at idle. If you use LED bulbs you will have to look at the specs. Many are DC only... 2

953 nut 59,253 #5 Posted February 23, 2022 As Paul @pfrederi pointed out most LED lights are DC but your lights are now wired for DC so shouldn't be a problem. The LED PAR36 5W (Eq to 35W Halogen) 12V DC Lamp draws five watts of power which is 0.4 amps each so less than one amp and your charging system five amps DC so you should be fine.
