Walleye Guy 22 #1 Posted February 22, 2022 Hello, My dad is working on a 753 that my great grandpa bought new in 1963. We got the fuel tank repaired (see this post) and installed and dad got the engine running yesterday. Now that the engine is running, he's not sure how to route the throttle and choke cables. Specifically the cable that routes near muffler (which I think he said is the throttle). Does it go above the muffler or below it. He's also not sure how the throttle cable activates. He said something about a square shaft inside of the housing. Anyway, he and I live two hours apart and he doesn't know how to use the internet so he asked me to post a question about these things to see if any of the members can post a few pictures and explain how the throttle cable is activated. Thanks in advance!

Walleye Guy 22 #3 Posted February 22, 2022 This is the data on the engine tag: Kohler engine, Engine SN 652365, Engine Spec Number 28626E, Engine Model Number is K161S
Pullstart 67,015 #4 Posted February 22, 2022 These are from my Kohler powered 502, so they should work. I can’t recall, but I may have added the twisted strap mount for the throttle, but it works great!
Pullstart 67,015 #5 Posted February 22, 2022 This is from another Kohler powered machine, a Commando 800. I see that the throttle cable isn’t actually installed on the little tab on the throttle plate near the governor but it routes under the engine.
Mike'sHorseBarn 3,260 #6 Posted February 22, 2022 I'll grab you some pics of the cables on my 753 tonight.

Walleye Guy 22 #9 Posted February 24, 2022 Those pictures worked perfectly, thank-you. Dad has the throttle cable hooked up correctly now. He asked me to post two more questions so I'll try adding them here rather than starting a new post. 1. Choke cable: his appears to be broken near where it mounts so when pulling the handle the butterfly doesn't fully close. He wants to know if anyone has a spare choke cable for sale or if it's possible to purchas a new one. 2. Fuel pump: he wants to know if a fuel pump rebuild kit is available and also if it is just a diaphragm or if it has an actuating arm too. Thanks in advance! That original choke cable will be hard to find. You can buy one that will work, but wont look at all the same. That fuel pump does have a lever and you can get a kit from thenandnowauto.com
Walleye Guy 22 #11 Posted March 2, 2022 MIke's Horse Barn, thanks for that reply. I haven't seen the choke cable yet so I don't know what's wrong with it. Maybe we can somehow repair it. Is this who you are referring to for the fuel pump kit? Would that be a Kohler part or a Wheel Horse part? I assume it's mounted on the engine so that would be Kohler part... Mike'sHorseBarn 3,260 #12 Posted March 3, 2022 Yea it is, here is the link to the pump kit I think you need, but you will need to take the pump off and apart to be sure. https://www.then-now-auto.com/product/ac-4s-kohler-fuel-pump-kit/ Also here is the link to the choke and throttle cables that should work. There was some discussion on this forum at one time I remember about round hood choke and throttle cables and the cables for the old Willy's jeeps are about as close as your gonna get to original looking. I've posted a link below to that as well. https://www.ebay.com/itm/274508821265?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=274508821265&targetid=1496860892852&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9006626&poi=&campaignid=16190446958&mkgroupid=134484879978&rlsatarget=pla-1496860892852&abcId=9300819&merchantid=8004234&gclid=Cj0KCQiA64GRBhCZARIsAHOLriJf167bTvarDbAAJafwkRzR6Q9tsKzEMzzVLqhJIljjY5xo8MWfQqgaAhqtEALw_wcB

I wonder if the housings are rust-resistant? Some WH cables had plastic outer jackets to lessen their tendency to rust if exposed to weather but I've seen many where the plastic cracked off from weathering!
