There is a manual on here that maybe someone who navigates this site better than me will post. As far as adjusting the hydro to not “creep” in neutral, there are instructions in the manual. Get the back wheels up off of the ground… Tilt the seat forward, and you will see the motion control plate thing down in the hole in the seat pan. The large head bolt is the cam adjustment . The other is the pivot bolt. Crank the tractor and leave it in neutral. See if the back wheels creep forward or backwards. Loosen the locknut on the cam adjustment . Slowly turn the cam adjustment bolt in either direction until the wheels remain motionless. Lock the cam adjustment by holding the adjustment nut, while tightening the lock nut. That seems almost too simple. I have a fire department meeting tonight, so ill mess with it tomorrow or wed. I did just order new hydro filter and engine filter for it too!
WHX?? 51,866 #30 Posted February 7, 2022 (edited) It is pretty easy Stegs... just remember to not use any lubrication in there ... Sorry @peter lena Do check the eccentric nut for flat spots and the cam follower for wear. You may know this already we use the NAPA 1410 filter but the originals are still out there. Mobile 1 Syn oil in 10w30 gets the nod but any good 10w30 will do. Leave the filter a couple of turns loose while filling to burp air. Helps direct as much air as possible over the cooling fins.

Ordered a hydro and engine oil filter on amazon. They are rated for synthetics and are priced nice (8.99 on amazon shipped) I will more than likely stop by walmart today and get some 5w30 or 10w30 full synthetic oil. They sell 5 quart jug for 20 dollars. That should work just fine As far as engine oil goes, i like using either kohler or kawasaki synthetic blend because it contains higher zinc levels. I use it in all my small engines, even golf cart. Maybe that is over the top, and regular motor oil is fine, but for the piece of mind the extra zinc gives me, ill just use that Edited February 7, 2022 by stegs

He could have spent 20 minutes getting it ready to sell and made potentially another $1000. Once the negotiations start all is fair.
WHX?? 51,866 #34 Posted February 7, 2022 Agreed Newbie.... When a PO doesn't want to get it running for whatever reason it's money in the bank for us!
OutdoorEnvy 1,777 #35 Posted February 7, 2022 Heck of a grab stegs! It's nice when sellers don't have unrealistic expectations for the condition of a machine. I think his asking price scared off a lot of potential buyers from the start which worked out great for you not having to compete with others interested. These are the stories that keep us hunting! They aren't all that easy but a lot are or close. That was a nice package indeed. The plow and weights alone are worth what you paid. Great find and good persistence on the deal! 2

Yeah… I don’t mean to sound like I try to jip people… not at all. But the buyer tries to get it cheap, and the seller tries to sell high. That’s economic’s… When I bought my 520H, I was a friend of the lady, and told her she could probably get more than I was offering. She wanted it out of her yard, and I was prepared to move it… She was happy, and so was I.

Yeah i was going to offer him 1k for it running/driving, and then when he called me and said it has no power at all, I right way cut my potential offer by 50% After the 20+ min in the freezing cold tinkering with it, i was froze. I offered 300 cash take it/leave it I was shocked when he took it. I tried to keep my cool and act not excited, but inside i was about to burst. I knew for 300 i could get my money back or money parting it out Im so glad it worked out. I dont think i will be able to do that ever again. Around here, you just dont see 520h for sale. Lots of 312 s and gear drives.....never a toro 520H.
Handy Don 14,124 #38 Posted February 7, 2022 Congrats on the great save. Don't discount the value of your time and, especially, your expertise as part of this transaction. You didn't have to pay in cash but you did invest. A nearby shop that handles a lot of the commercial landscaping companies' stuff has a $110 per hour labor rate and a minimum "pay up front" $40 charge for diagnoses applicable to any repairs done (the owner was getting stuck with a lot of abandoned cheapie mowers). My guess is that a shop would've billed as much as $500 in labor and another $100 or more on parts to get that thing going and they wouldn't have cleaned it!
Horse Newbie 7,395 #39 Posted February 7, 2022 I think you starting low, and leaving room to go up was just good bargaining… You were taking all the risk… And if the fellow knew what he had to have… that’s a good deal !
RED-Z06 2,582 #40 Posted February 7, 2022 It does suck though, when they have priced high and know what they have and you know its priced too high...but you arent leaving without it... -they cant all be good deals like this unfortunately

I told him that. Knowing that 520H tractors are kinda finicky with electrical things, I told him it could be a 10 cent fuse or a new wiring harness with hundred into new parts He understood, but he did not know what he had. He thought it was just a ordinary garden tractor. No different that your big box store craftsman or yard machine etc. He viewed it just as it sat. Not running or driving. He didnt view it as what it could be. Im a toro fan to being with, a toro branded 520H was a bucket list tractor. Im still all excited over it and its been 48 hours. All i want to do is work on it

I read somewhere online that they are the same filter as a donaldson, just a different tag put on it at the end of the line Cant prove that, but i use those or baldwin or napa filters. But for the price on amazon, luber finer filters for the win 1

Its owned by first brands corp I know they own STP filters, but i was recommended these filters multiple times on different forums They seem to be great filters. I do prefer baldwin filters and napa, but i plan on changing the oil again in about 20 hours, so just using a cheaper filter will make sense 1

I use fram PH3614 on customer equipment, they are well made for mower applications and cheap on Amazon..they are as well made as oem kohler and better than oem briggs. I had a 383 stroker and a L98 5.7 both die from collapsed fram filters, id never put one on a vehicle.

That's sorta strange, dontcha think? Have you cut them open to compare to see if your 'well made' and/or 'better' holds true?
