Winter fun - Project “Freedom” 440cc 2 Stroke 1054 Snowmotractor

A not so amazing sketch.  Machines facing each other.  Engine should move directly over.  No rotation needed.

A quick video about the steering upgrades.  It might not matter.  It might get a whole different front end.  I’m not sure yet.

Some useless plastic is outta the way..

There’s a good chance most of this suspension and maybe steering gets grafted onto the 1054 frame.

is your 457 4 stroke?  My 440 is a 2 stroke twin.

As built as yours is, I think it’s still apples and oranges, right?

Yes sir, I am just interested in the horsepower ratings at said RPM.

Sounds like you have a real hum-dinger there...

My conflict right now is whether to offset the engine centerline to line up the drive pulley, or run the snowmobile clutch system and use the driven clutch as a jackshaft, and if jackshaft is the way to go, where to re-route the steering.

That is what I did with my 457. Unfortunately, the engine was so wide... I had to offset it to line up with the drive pulley. I thought that it was going to look a bit odd... but with the exhaust and such, only I notice/know that it is offset.

I had to adjust it several times to keep ensure that it was lined-up. Also, as you probably imagine... you will need to find the belt size... which... for some odd reason I am good at guessing at... :dunno:

Also, I would recommend grade-8 bolts to hold that booger down... :)

I like the fact that the polaris 440 has needle bearing supported crank with roller bearing crank journal. :banana-dance:

I recommend Klotz 2 stroke oil, by the way. Best oil that I have found for these engines. :handgestures-thumbupright:

We’re looking at 41 and rain by Wednesday.  I hope it doesn’t take all the snow pack with it!

I’m playing with motor mounts and belt alignments and whats nots today.  I think direct drive with no clutch pedal is going to work!

This might loose all brakes, potentially. :auto-swerve:

Was the pedal originally on the "passenger side"?

no. There’s still a pedal “driver’s side” so I suppose I could just trim the clutch arm off or use a shaft locking collar.
