Don Seemed like through the 70s, 80s and early 90s few companies made any real effort to make a decent deck. Replace governor spacer Inspect why the starter sounds so awful Adjust valve lash Inspect intake for leaks (prevention) Pull heads and Inspect valve seats/bores. RED-Z06 2,117 #15 Posted February 9, 2022 Engine is out, start to finish it was out in about 20 minutes, got it torn down this afternoon, plastic spacer came off too easy, i heated the steel new one, cleaned all the mating surfaces and put it on..a few hammer strikes it was seated in. Cleaned my balls up, and my cup..😐, and assembled it back, ensuring the hole was at 3oclock. Also chanced the flywheel side crank seal. Valve lash is all over, ill set it tomorrow..one valve has no lash at all. The only problem i encountered is, it ate a screw at some point, right side piston took a beating but looks superficial. This one has a shaft driven deck off the front pto, Twin belts down to a pulley on a shaft. Deck is...very rough, ive got it stripped down bare, refinished the spindles, brackets, temsioner, pulleys, stripped the hardware, new gauge wheels...waiting on supplies for the shell itself 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
RED-Z06 2,117 #24 Posted December 2, 2022 Well, the engine laid down after 45 minutes of mowing, seller didnt disclose the engine had a loose valve seat and the block was ruined, so...10 months later i tracked down a used correct 1- 7/16" pto engine and after welding up the broken starter mounts...it purrs.
