lynnmor 7,813 #6 Posted January 18, 2022 Run the engine at half throttle, the voltage should come up to about 14 volts in a minute or so. If you have 63 psi compression, the engine is sick and needs repair. Backfiring might be the result of the sick engine or the carburetor and intake needs serviced. 1

lynnmor 7,813 #10 Posted January 19, 2022 The oil pressure switch on the engine turns on that light with no pressure and turns on the hour meter with pressure. It does nothing to the ignition. 1

lynnmor 7,813 #12 Posted January 19, 2022 You could become a supporter here or open a YouTube account. My guess is that the carburetor is in need of work. Your sledgehammer comment is not necessary.

RED-Z06 2,567 #14 Posted January 19, 2022 On my 416-H, if the engine is flooded from too much choke or the battery is a bit weak it will tend to slow down or hesitate on the compression strokes and it will backfire...i move the choke to off and throttle to idle...this lowers compression some and it usually fires right up. If its got alot of use, the valve lash may need to be adjusted. 2

stevasaurus 23,276 #23 Posted January 19, 2022 Sounds like it is hunting just a little, but it could be the snow load doing it.

stevasaurus 23,276 #25 Posted January 19, 2022 @ti-jean Have you tried a gas additive?? Might just be a little carbon build up...maybe running a little rich because of it. Try some Sea Foam gas treatment in the gas tank. Sea Foam is the best there is. Don't mess with anything else. Run it for a while, and try running it a little leaner. Idle down the engine before you shut it down...that could cut down on the back-firing. The engine actually sounds pretty good. No compression problem, I think.
