pfrederi 18,650 #1 Posted January 16, 2022 I am restoring a #30 carb to use on a K-341. Got it off ebay and it was in rough shape. Scrapped off the thick crud and threw it in the Berrymans and promptly forgot about it. (The mind is a terrible thing to lose) Couple weeks later went looking to work on it one cold day and couldn't find it ...was still soaking. Now have it cleaned up and Throttle and choke shafts out. BUT the choke and throttle butterfly were seriously rusted. Emory cloth, wire brush and Dremel abrasive puff and rust is gone now bare metal. Originals have some sort of brass colored coating (plated??). I am not in the elecrto plating business so what to put on them to avoid future rust???? I have a rattle can of Eastwood carb paint. I have used it on the outside of a carb seems to hold up ok. Think that may work on the butterfly's??? ...Other ideas??? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Thats what I do -- although I have never had any really rusted, just maybe around the edges, I clean em and reinstall. Would think that once they are "off the shelf" and put into use shouldnt be likely to reoccur.
