A disturbing genuine lack of common sense and overall regard for their fellow humans.

They'll either smarten up some or Nature's sorting system will do that for them by way of a Funeral Director.

That area of The Turnpike is certainly a challenge in the cold seasons.

They were very lucky...

I heard a news update about the driver.  He had been up all night at a friend’s house, had a six pack and numerous mixed drinks.  4 hours sleep and was texting these things to someone when he passed out and ramped the overpass.  Huh.

I'd jail him. Mobile phones, cell phones to you, cause more crashes than enough. The laws on them have just been increased in the UK. Not just talking on one, but texting and playing games.

I can't give you a specific start date but it's been the law in my region for quite some time that COMMERCIAL drivers are not allowed to have a mobile phone hand held.

There are states such as Maine and New Hampshire that are spreading that rule to any and all vehicles and I think that's an excellent idea.

New Hampshire in fact has taken an extra step and banned ALL handheld electronics while in control of any vehicle, commercial or not.

As far as operating under the influence of alcohol....

Well, I don't think there's a punishment that could be stiff enough for that.

My neighbor girl just got her license and bought a beautiful one owner old Buick, then found the nearest small patch of ice.  No Buick, no more.  I have yet to ask if she dropped the phone.

Handy Don

Before mobile phones, it was playing with the radio or the stereo.

I consider the only thing more dangerous than a new young driver in a car is a group of them in the same car distracting the driver.
