ohiofarmer 3,372 #26 Posted January 20, 2022 All this talk about ice fishing and we are going next week. Some years the ice in southwest ohio is pretty iffy or non-existent. We have had some 15 degree days, but in a few days the thermometer is gonna stay below freezing. The ground has remained frozen, but safe ice is coming for sure. There were some shanty builders who had some popular shanties for the everyman , and only weighed 55 pounds. They would set up in just thirty seconds. skis were mounted on the end of the shanty and the floor folded in half. To set it up, jut flop the floor section to the ice while still collapsed and then insert a single stretcher bar at the top. i built the floor sections today and cut the holes just a bit bigger than a 5 gallon bucket so we can make hole collar seals to keep the holes ice free. The floor area is 7 feet by 42 inches with 4 ice holes. Senco made these shanties back twenty years ago, and they are a great design. Earl Sanchuck built this one and if you search for the Senco Ice shack, you will find this picture along with shop drawings. Maybe you Michiganders know a bit more about them since they were manufactured up there. I used some fast dry floor enamel on the floor plywood today by hanging the can from a step ladder and heating it with my coleman lantern. Perfect
