You just keep adding timing and boost until the piston crown comes out the breather...then you know, 1⁰ less timing and 1psi less boost.

Or better yet...keep adding rpms 100 at a time til it goes suddenly silent, then you know...100 rpms less than that

Come to think of it, and im probably jinxing myself here, in all the years ive run karts, mustangs, vettes, trucks, tractors...ive never broken a rod from rpms.

I had a tecumseh h50 on a gokart with no governor and we ran that thing for years just screaming...never hurt it.  Throttle hung on my 454 after doing an intake swap and it ran up so high i had to pull the cluster to move the stuck needle back into range...

Don

I ran alot of ARC rods and flywheels, never had a problem yet, even had a Honda 390 break a crank at 10,800 and the rod somehow survived...the target redline was 8000 but it blew through a 2 disk clutch and went for the moon

Ive not talked to ARC,  just have their parts.  Gave up trying to get flathead info since everyone is going to OHV stuff.  Im just looking at old Ford flatty work, 5hp Briggs stuff including Jr dragster, etc... applying and experimenting.  A power adder would be fun, but Ive always been more of a NA guy and making things run strong 'for what they are'.   If I really wanted power, id have a big V twin on it and not be messing with an old flatty.  Its just fun making old, basically obsolete stuff run good.

I have a 66 cutlass thats been mine for 29 years. 100% dependable weekend cruiser, pump gas 496 big block chevy, and runs mid 6s @ 103 in the 1/8 mile in full street trim minus a puny 10" slick.

Sure, a junkyard LS with a chinkanese turbo would likely beat it and for less money, but thats not happening......

No disrespect intended, because I'm a cynical, skeptical ******* but...

I might believe mid sevens, but for sixes to be believable I'd need to see your ticket.

Couldn't read the time in the video.

The car looks and sounds great though!

Sorry, I can't help myself, again, no disrespect...

Well that's amazing.  To me 6.7 is more 'high' sixes but won't argue with a fast car!

And almost ten years apart.

Mooresville never figured out how to set the dates correctly, but it probably has been 10 since the street tire pass days. I retired it maybe 4 years ago, she now enjoys a weekend cruise here and there, and picks up more groceries than time slips.

September will be 30 years Ive had her, shes proven all she needs to for me in that length of time.

Nothing wrong with that. Never know when you're gonna need a little extra oomph for passing gear or some extra important groceries.

Guess I oughtta update more often eh?  Pics are a pain for me to get from phone to computer to page, reading is a pain on the phone ha. Anyhow.....

This project took a big turn when I acquired a junk 18hp block, built a simple flow bench (manometer for 'comparison') and started playing. Learned an awful lot by doing this and applied it to the big 20.5 block.

Here's some random photos from the last month or so.....

Hope you are all doing well!
