Murray to IH 1568

Cub cadets have the same style grill, because they were built by IH. the outering was cast-iron and the innerlay was made out of plastic.

Any idea how much that grill weighs? Is that full iron? looks very heavy!

Don't know what it weighs :confusion-scratchheadyellow: i'm guessing somewhere in the neighbourhood of 15-20kg (35-45 lbs) And yes it is completely made of steel.

Thank you for your comments, much appreciated! :notworthy:

Drilled some holes and finally found some led lights that are the size that I want, have a nice, somewhat 'oldschool' lens on them, all without being extremely pricey. The lights will get a bezel to film in the gap while still being able to adjust them.

Then I installed some mesh behind the grille. Not sure if I like the look of it. I would have liked it to be more open or 'holey' :P

What do you think? Any tips on where I might find more open mesh?

Fleabay maybe.

Your version of our big box home supply store?

Do you have a metal fab shop local?

Some places that can get "expanded" steel might also be able to get "perforated" steel or aluminuminuminum.

I'm not sure of the size of your grille but I have gotten some good screening from air filters. Ones you would see from a large gravel truck,  a long haul type truck or heavy equipment.

Looks ok to me, but if you are still looking search “screen door protector” and a bunch of pretty cheap options will pop up… :eusa-think:

Yes i do. That is where this piece came from. Seems all they use is the heavier stuff. So more steel than holes I guess 😁

I like this idea but i'm unsure where I would find a used filter that is big enough. The screen should be about 15" square.

Good one! That's pretty close to the metal vs. air ratio i'm looking for. I'll take a look around Giggle or Amazonia to see if someone near me has these available.

I get mine from some local big truck repair shops, also local scrap yards..

I just go in and ask. They usually tell me if there is one in the dumpster its mine. Some can be 14-18"H x 6-8"W. Cut off and unrolled it should be big enough

This image made me think of those wire mesh waste baskets that go under ones desk. I have one in the garage right now!

One of the things I like about this website and group of people the most is that when you present an idea or a question for something that might be a little unconventional we come up with a half a dozen different ways to go about the exact same task such as this mesh search. Very very cool.

Excellent! Those baskets are easy to find and as cheap as $3. Hard to beat that price. I'll look into those to see if they got the mesh I want.

Absolutely agreed! Much better advice than one would het in a random FB or Insta post.

McNichols can provide you just about anything you want, but it won’t be as cheap as a recycled trash can.

I'm sure they can. Problem would be shipping it to the Netherlands :happy-jumpgreen:

Jokes aside, i've tried similar adresses locally aswell, point is that new perforated and/or expanded metal is pretty expensive. Plus most of it isn't as 'open' as I would like it to be.

So I think i'll go for the garbage basket idea for now.

Giggle let me stumble across metal speaker mesh. That is small and 'holey' enough only catch is finding a big enough piece.

Cut the base of the steering console and added said ******. This also meant I had to extend the steering shaft

Excellent idea.

The Colossus project steering tower height needs to raised as much as 4" (75+mm).

Usage of this setup could prove beneficial.

Thank you. Works quite well.

The universal joints came out of various cars from the local scrap yard and are top quality for an unbeatable price. One piece even has splines which proves to greatly aid in easy (dis) assembly during the build phase.

Sorry for the late notice, but if anyone is near Fredricktown, Missouri, the 17th annual Cubarama is being held this weekend, starting Thursday, the 27th,  (set up day), Friday September 28, and Saturday September 29.  It's held the last weekend of September each year in Fredricktown and is for the Farmball Cub and Cub Cadet, but basically anything IH related.

Fredricktown is about 80 to 90 miles south of St. Louis.
